Xbox One controller "A" button is broken on all controllers?
Hey all!

I have an Xbox One controller and I noticed that "A" button doesn't work half of the time. As soon as you press it at certain angle it just doesn't do anything. So I went to a store today and asked the guy working there to check with a test app if a brand new controller will work properly, but it did the same thing. So we checked another one, and again everything was working properly except for an "A" button.

After I returned home I found this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/agmbfv/a_button_is_unresponsive_when_pressed_at_certain/

So... money wasted? All xbox one controllers do that? :bonfire2:

Not all but it is an known issue with the official Xbox One Controller.

You do not have this problem with 3rd party Xbox One Controllers.

Damn...

I bought it this April, but since I don't use controllers much I opened it only recently (to play Crash Bandicoot and Spyro trilogy), so I guess I can't do anything about it now? Furthermore it seems like there is no reason to try to rma it at all since I'll get another controller with exactly the same issue anyway. :steamsad:

Controllers usually only have the retailer return policy anyways, not a warranty from Microsoft.

Never buy something and then not test it. But it's just a very slight button issue and it's easily addressed once you open the controller which you need to do at some point anyways if you expect to clean it to make it last longer.

No idea where you are from but It should still be under warranty (1 year) if was only bought in April. Return it. Get a refund then buy a 3rd party Xbox One Controller.

I have a PDP Xbox One Controller (£19.99 UK) and never had an issue with it.

Ok, luckily I've managed to find a receipt, so I'll try to refund it tomorrow.

Should've bought another xbox 360 gamepad, or use a Steam Controller instead...

I still rely on the X360 wireless controllers. I so no reason for an XBO controller when they improved nothing, except later adding BT

Where I need BT I use DS4 controller, as these are great.

I am not a fan of controllers, but 360 was indestructible compared to this piece of plastic. I bet you could play football with it and it would still function.

Honestly it wouldn't be such a problem, but I am somewhat salty over the fact that Xbox One controller costs 3x 360 controllers, yet is broken out of the box.

Oh, whatever.

Yea maybe give a PDP or PowerA XBO controller a try

guess I must be lucky cause I just bought a xbox one controller few weeks back and all buttons work exceptionally well. it says "model 1708" on the label.

I like how lightweight it is. and the coned thumbsticks.

Mine says '1708" as well. Made in China.

Try pressing A button at slight angles.

I've had about 10 Xbox One Controllers. I can only remember one that had the A button issue.

I always end up with stick drift, probably because of FIFA. I'm not defending the Xbone controllers, the build quality is awful. At least 5 of my pads have weird 'double clicking' bumper buttons and they came like that.

I had a PowerA controller once and it was messed up. All the buttons mapped wrong and the bumpers and L3 died after a few months. Replaced it with a real 360 controller which has worked ever since.
