How significant of an upgrade is this move?

Also, am I correct in assuming that this will set me up for as long as I am gaming on a 1080p monitor at 60hz, say.. the next few years?

Good chuck, if you can aim for a 2060S. But that'll do nicely for 1080p60. I'd recommend a 144hz monitor too.

970 can't do do 1080p at 60 hz?. I never owned one, so not sure how it performs. I wouldn't spend that much for like a 20 fps difference (what userbenchmark is saying) if he's budget conscious. But if he has the money to drop, then why not.

Can do it with medium-high settings, just not ultra.

when it was released it could do those games at max 1080p 60+fps
but not with newer games

1660s is strong enough for newer games at 1080p60 near max

GTX 970 is about same as GTX 1060 3GB.

GTX 1060 3GB, GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1660, GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 2060 Super.

Look at RTX 2060 or 2060 Super or higher. Many should be at a decent discount during Black Friday / Cyber Week sales.

I refunded the Zotac 1660 Super AMP ($279.00tax incl.) . I decided to wait a while more. This old 970 has been holding up well enough I guess, and the money will go for family holidays anyway. Maybe a new years sale or something and I'll do as you said and grab a 2xxxx series

If you missed a good black Friday deal, look during Cyber Monday and Cyber Week. Otherwise good luck finding much good stuff still in stock the rest of 2019.

The next good sales usually don't occur until March/April for Spring Cleaning... inventory must go sales.

Some online places might have sales during February though, for Chinese New Year
