When you changed to the DVI did you do this while the PC was on? If so have you tried changing it to DVI while the PC was off? Could also be a sketchy DVI cable. And be sure you are using the DVI-D port on the GPU and that its a DVI-D cable.
DP probably works the same way from reading the manual. Just because DVI or DP can carry sound doesn't mean that the monitor works that way.
Only one cable with work at a time, so if you want to use DVI select it using the buttons on the monitor or remove the HDMI cable for auto-detect.
You might want to turn on loudness in the Windows sound properties as the speakers in these monitors can be fairly soft in noisy environments.
use a receiver or pc speakers instead
Then unhook the hdmi.
Problem solved.
Audio just use Speakers or Headset.
Monitor speakers are like 2 watts, total crap
Youve tried ONLY having the DVI cable connected and switched to the DVI input of the monitor? You'll likely have to manually switch to whichever input you want to use via the monitors settings
Turn the PC and Monitor off
Connect the DVI cable to the PC and the monitor, turn the PC on and wait for it to boot up THEN turn the monitor on and see what that does, just make sure the monitor chooses the correct Input
And double check what DVI cable you're using, whether its a DVI-D cable or DVI-I cable and what port its connected to the GPU
