How to turn this router into a network switch?
Please help, I spent hours trying to do this and nothing worked. Issue: I have a virgin media super hub 3.0 and router called DrayTek Vigor 2860. Im trying to get the DrayTek router to turn into a switch so it basically extends my main hub (virgin media). The reason why is because I don't have the range in terms of ethernet cables (but have multiple ethernet cables). I wanted it to have the same subnet because it's compatible with using a VNC on Windows to Linux. (Main hub is 192.168.0.1, Draytek router is 192.168.1.1). Thanks.

Most routers work as a switch without doing anything, plug everything into the LAN ports, leave the WAN port empty.

Tried that too, I even went into the router's settings and disabled DHCP for LAN port 1 (lan port 1 was connected to the main Hub), and get no connection either way. Thanks.

You have to access the router via Web Browser. Go check your make and model online to see how to access it. If it’s a rented Modem/Router combination, you don’t want to (and shouldn’t) mess with it without help from your ISP’s technical support.

Disable the dhcp for the lan port where your computer is connected too. As far I can understand, your virgin media "hub" has a dhcp service running, so your computer should get an ip from that dhcp and not from the router you're connected.
set its static ip to something outside the pri router range
ex. ir pri router = 192.168.1.1, use 192.168.255.255 (and write it down on the router)
manually set your ip to 192.168.255.254,
log into the router at 192.165.255.255, then disable its dhcp and do not plug anything into its internet port

or spend the $5-15 for a giabit 5-8 port switch
Most routers will have a setting for "Router" or "bridge" mode. You want the latter. You may need to also turn off the DHCP server as others suggested

Try googling "draytek vigor 2860 bridge mode"

https://www.draytek.com/en/faq/faq-connectivity/connectivity.wan/how-to-use-pppoe-pass-through-and-bridge-mode-on-vigor130/
It really depends on the setup page when you log into the router (type in the IP listed on the bottom of the device to get there). I was able to do this with one my old wifi routers by setting it to 'bridgle mode' so that it basically just repeated the main signal from the main comcast box. On my devices, it still shows up as a seperate wifi network but everything can communicate with everything else regardless of which one your'e connected to.

I did this so I would only have to run a single cable to my living room for my smart TV, roku, steam link, Xbox, ect, and also so that I had better wifi coverage in my house.

I'm not sure if every device will be able to do it though. It seems like there is a crazy amount of variation from device to device.

I tried that too, seems like it didn't work, never got a connection. Even when set up, the router just chooses not to give me a connection at all. Something seems off..

Haven't tried both LAN ports, so i'll do that now. It has a weird thing where you have to activate VLAN to allow the other ports to turn on. Thanks.

It's just a purchased router basically, only my ISP has access to my super Hub from Virgin Media.

you need to manually set your ip to something similar to the router
same.same.same.different
then log into the router using its ip

I did that, it just doesn't allow me to use that ip (the new one) to log into the router as well as the old one. Making my router unaccessible to log in to. In fact. Do you think I have to wait a couple hours or something for my router to sync up with the tweaks I give it? Seems like any edit i make just makes it unable to do anything. Thanks.
plug the pc directly into the router (lan port not internet)
go to the advanced networking adapter settings page, lan connection properties, ipv4 and set its ip 192.168.same.different
and subnet to 255.255.255.0
with dns and gateway blank

I did that. I made the ip 192.168.0.2 (which is not taken by any other device), my main router is 192.168.0.1. After changing 192.168.1.1 (second router [draytek]) to 192.168.0.2, I can no longer access it at all, it doesn't even act like a switch because despite my main router plugged in Lan port 1 and my computer plugged into Lan port 2, it doesn't give me internet at all.
if its in the assignable range of the pri router it can interfere

you need to disable the slave routers dhcp so it does not assign other devices ip addresses

I disabled the DHCP after changing the IP for it. Do you think I can disable the DHCP and leave the ip address the same? Thanks.
you cant thave 2 devices with the same ip on the same subet

if one router is 192.168.0.1 and the other is 192.168.1.1 they will be fine
to change their settings, manually put the pc to 192.168.same.different

thaats why i use 192.168.same.250-255 on slave as its on the same subnet and outside the pri addressing range, then you can access both by typing in their ip
