helping friend switching cases from a alienware x51 r3
my friend wants to switch his alienware x51 parts to a regular case but we cant figure out which cable to connect the smaller secondary motherboard to?
the regular motherboard doesnt have the power switch, so we have to use the secondary motherboard

we have no idea how to connec the smaller secondary motherboard to the regular motherboard, anybody have any ideas?
heres a picture of the motherboard[i.ebayimg.com]
heres a ebay listing of the smaller motherboard[www.ebay.com]

there isnt a 20/24 pin connector either? how is the motherboard getting power

found out the big motherboard has a power switch connector just didnt look hard enough i guess
but still doesnt answer the 20/24 pin connector question

It's just a front panel, man, u don't need that crap for a new case if it's already got front panel with a bunch of connectors.

Red's your front panel - power button, leds etc. It goes in the motherboard exactly like in the "secondary motherboard", u'll figure it out. Green's your USB 3.0 port, and blue's your front panel audio. Absolutely compatible with any normal case without any secondary little board.

Your smartphone doesn't use 24 pin, why would his PC need it? There clearly are 2 6-pins connectors near the SATA ports to deliver the power.

yeah with some thinking that makes sense
as soon as were done connecting everything were gonna try it out

the computer wont turn on
the power supply is switched to on and the power switch is in the right place

Check if did confuse + and -. Power switch should go ontop of those 2 black pins. You might also try to turn it on by shortening those 2 pins with a screwdriver in case there's something wrong with the power button of a new case. You also can try to connect that little motherboard to the mobo, and shorten pins there, tho it shouldn't make any difference anyhow as it identical and it just passes PWSW signal to the mobo pins.

U know, with no pins on mobo labled anyhow it seems possible they could've used different colors for the same thing on mobo and front panel connectors, like to make u wanna call them and pay them for help. Shortening different pairs of pins with a screwdriver will give u the right answer sooner or later.

we might think it might be a problem with our power supply because we tried plugging in our regular power supply, nothing worked
we plug the motherboard power in, fans start spinning and whatnot

I am not sure what do you mean by regular power supply, but this motherboard clearly requires a PSU designed to power the mobo with 2 6-pin connectors, and regular power supplies can only power the mobo with 20/24-pin u've mentioned before, so you've got to use the one that was with the system in the first place or get a similiar one designed in that particular way. Additional power 6-pins of a regular PSU like those u plug into graphics cards won't cut it.

alright that makes sense
might as well get a new motherboard then
