I7 or Nintendo Switch?
Hello, I have an everlasting dillema about if I should invest in a i7 7700k or if I should get a Nintendo Switch?

The main question here is if it's worth upgrading my cpu to the i7.

My specs are as follows:

GTX 1050 ti
I3 6100
8 GB RAM
1 TB HD

The i7 would be rather wasted being limited by the RAM and the videocard.
i7 more speed and can up grade in the fucher
switch games are expensive, so it will cost a lot more than the console price to get a usable experience. Your GPU would greatly bottleneck an i7 though, so it depends. If you play lots of pc games, upgrade the cpu then eventually get a better gpu, but if you dont use your pc often or travel a lot, get the switch and then buy games later on

What mother board are you using? The K variant of the I7 is useless unless you have a Z series board. Also a GPU can never bottle neck a CPU.
i would rather have the nintendo switch.

the only downside is the games and controllers are very expensive compared to pc.

$300 - console
$180 - 3 games
$70 - pro controller

$550 right off the bat and $60 for most games thereafter.
As others have mentioned, the Switch is expensive asf. Id really only consider it if you're willing to spend the extra money on games and accessories.

It depends on how you use your PC. If you use your PC often for gaming and already have a Z series motherboard, get the 7700k. If you don't have a Z series motherboard I wouldn't even bother because the cost of a decent Z series motherboard is atleast $100. Of course the CPU will work without a Z series motherboard, but you won't be able to overclock it, which is the whole point of the 'K' series CPUs.

You're doubling the amount of cores and threads that your current CPU has and the 7700k is clocked pretty high out of the box at 4.2GHz, and even with a 1050 Ti performs pretty well depending on the games you play.

GTA V Online (GPU intensive) at 1080p Very High with a 7700k and GTX 1050 Ti gets 60-70fps. But at the same settings with a 7700k + GTX 1060 6GB, gets 115-130fps

1060 6GB : https://youtu.be/mYAMipY-4Yk

CSGO (CPU intensive) at 1080p on a 7700k gets anywhere from 230fps to 300fps

Where CSGO with your current CPU gets 130-240FPS at 1080p

I do like my Nintendo Switch. But my first love is PC. An i7 7700k would be a decent upgrade over an i3 6100. But your other components are just OK so you'd really only see some benefits in CPU intensive games.

The Switch is pretty nice. I don't agree with all the grumbling about game prices though. First because console games have been $50-$60 for new games for 30 years, and adjusting for inflation they're actually cheaper than ever. Secondly there's plenty of games that are less than $50, depending on what you want to play.

Although you'd probably want to expand the Switch's storage at some point, so microSD card is gonna cost something. And unless you're stuck in a 9 year old's body, buying some grips for the Switch in handheld mode might be nice too, in addition to some of the other things people mentioned.

I would only add an SSD for OS and few games, your PC is well balanced, appropriate CPU + GPU combo (the GPU is the highest I would match with that CPU) and 8GB RAM are the right choice for a gaming PC meant for e-sports games at 1920x1080p ultra and newer demanding games at 1920x1080p or 1280x720p low settings.
Yes you can upgrade but for a noticeable fps gain you will need to spend a considerable amount of money since the CPU I would suggest you is minimum a Ryzen 5 2600 for being futureproof, which will requires a new MB and 16 GB RAM DDR4.
For GPU I would go for at least a RX580 4GB /GTX1060 6GB.

Nintendo Switch is a good toy but I would recommend you only if you have kids since after 30 minutes you will be bored of that childish platform and you would have spent as much as for a futureproof (3/4 years) upgrade.

This is a child's fantasy about imagined optimums. Things aren't nearly so black and white.

It's OK to not like the Nintendo Switch because you don't have attachments to consoles or Nintendo properties or whatever. But you make quite a few assumptions about how your preferences project onto the wider world and the OP that really have no relationship with reality.

For my money the Switch is the best Nintendo console overall since the SNES.

Big thanks to everyone for the comments. You helped me a lot and told me things I've never known. I will still be looking into the prices and such and will make my decision after.
My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-H110M-DS2 any advice on that
you're not going to be overclocking a 7700k with that motherboard.

but it you replace the motherboard, you might as well get a newer cpu than the 7700k.

but then you've got a new cpu and motherboard, but you're bottlenecked by the 1050 ti.
