Sapphire RX 480 Nitro Temperature?
Aye mates, I just got my new GPU working but I'm not quite sure what's the optimal and the dangerous temperature of an AMD radeon GPU.

When I was playing GTA V on high settings, I took a look at speedfan and it showed me that my temperature is above 80,
86 to be precise and I was just only been playing for 10 minutes. Is it normal? Is there anything I should be worried about? I don't think I'm going to get a "cooler or fan" anytime soon PLUS it's an OEM PC so I couldn't really configure and add more components.

The PC is a Dell optiplex 7010 MT,

However, the GPU is in a vertical position with a PCI extension (since I couldn't fit it in my motherboard)
Hence, the GPU is somewhat on the "outside"

Thanks for reading

I used to have a Sapphire RX 580, and it never went above the 60s. The 480 is almost identical, just slightly slower.

The maximum safe temperature is around 86 C, after that you'd want to raise the fan curve, or go back to default settings if you overclock.

I started using the app called MSI afterburner and the temperature is stable at 40 - 55 now when gaming while only using 25% of fan. Idk how that happened but I'm glad it worked.

Thanks for your input too :)

Sapphire's NITRO coolers are pretty efficient, that's what happened. My RX 580 ran 30~40 C idle at 25% and would ramp up to 50% around 50~60. When I tested 100% while gaming, it stayed 40~50.

If you were not aware, the RX 580 takes quite a bit of power, typically needing 450W min / 500w recommended[outervision.com] so if you have not upgraded yet probably good to consider something like the good-old CX550 gray[www.newegg.com] always a good deal with the rebate and should fit the mini tower no problem.

I have a 500w evga psu right now lol. The only thing I need to upgrade in 2019 is probably the motherboard and the case. Other than that, there's nothing else I should upgrade, yet not approximately.

Sapphire makes it worse too. Their NITRO models are 225W+
Make sure you enable Vsync in settings. You may not like it but it will 100% fix this problem. If you're playing without vsync then your gpu will be 86+ C in AAA games like this. Enable vsync and it should drop temps.
