Help? MSI motherboard not working? (I dont understand the debug lights)
Hey guys, sorry for the dumb quesion but ironically I'm struggling to troubleshoot my computer. I got a new mobo for christmas (MSI Z270 Gaming Plus) and it says in the manual that a solid EZ light means there's an issue but there's no mention of what a flashing light means or no light?
My CPU and DRAM light flash about the same times, where as the gpu and boot drive do not come on at all and nothing displays on my screen. I'm sorry for posting this here of all places but figure this is where id get the quickest reply, thanks in advance!

(Edit 1: Computer was working before today but too everything out of old case to put in this new one, specs are
16GB vengeance RGB RAM
Vega 64 GPU
MSI Z270 Gaming Plus MOBO
Cooler Master 750w PSU (Unsure exact model)
8tb HDD and 256GB SSD (with os)
7-7700k CPU)

(Edit 2: I have tried launching with RAM in different slots/only 1 stick and always get a flashing light UNLESS I put it no sticks then it beeps and the light stays solid as it should as far as i understand)

(Edit 3: Tried running on integrated graphics and still no display on the monitor)

(Edit 4: Problem has been discovered as the motherboard being faulty. Requested a return already)

Guess you could remove the graphics card first and connect the monitor cable to the motherboard and see if you can boot on integrated graphics. If not check power cables, try just having one of the memory sticks, maybe reseat CPU for whatever reason. And then put in graphics card again and make sure to hook it up though I assume you have done so =P

Didnt think of plugging straight into mobo... Will update when i do that thanks for suggestion, have tried RAM already will update original post to show that
Ah you had moved from old to new case. Did you ever remove CPU and cooler or not? Are all power connectors and fans connected?
I assume it's most likely just something not connected / whatever. Had you turned of PSU when you removed things? Turned it on? The connector at the back?

I moved everything out of old case into new one, CPU and cooler are reattached in new case and seem to be in place, will need to take it all out again to do a thorough check but dont have tools on hand to do that so really hoping the CPU isnt the issue though all appears good with is. PSU also seems good, spins up as expected. Still looking for cable compatible with my mobo for int graphics

Int graphics didnt work, narrows down the problem at least

Check the manual that came with your board. There should be debug codes for those LEDs.

Only thing in manual is if light stays on, theres a problem. Not very helpful Im afraid
Did you remove the GPU? I have to ask because if there is a GPU installed, the iGPU will be disabled.

I assumed if I didnt plug the cable that goes to the monitor into the gpu it would ignore it, bad assumption on my part and will try again after unplugging gpu fully, my bad. That could take time (until tomorrow) because i dont have the screwdriver on me, bit underprepared...

I don't know how much it narrowed it down.
If it had worked then it would had been graphics card not connected correctly or no power or whatever.
But since it still doesn't work then.. Whatever?

Did you actually remove the CPU and put it back again? No risk of having bent any pins or so? Any risk of having got any conducting thermal grease somewhere where it shouldn't be? Applied new one before seating the cooler? Cooler is connected to CPU FAN header? 24 pin + 4/4+4/8 pin power connectors plugged in?

Did you turn of PSU / removed power cable before removing any components?

If you had a jumper maybe turn of PSU / remove cable and put the jumper over the CLR CMOS jumper pins / use s screwdriver if there is any or remove the battery or if you have a button for it push that to reset the BIOS just in case. (and then turn on psu / connect cable and turn it on again.)
Got a small list of things to try, gonna wait til later to try them (sorry) but i dont have the tools at the moment and I have work. I appreciate all the help I've got here and please feek free to keep posting suggestions, I will keep you all updated as I try more things! Thank you all once again

Hey guys thanks for all the help, I appreciate it! Whilst I was at working my dad did some trouble shooting and it turns out the motherboard is iffy... The good news is I'm on my computer right now, just with only one RAM stick (though both of them work, the motherboard issues stop me from utilising both). Thanks again for all the help and suggestions, I'm glad I posted here due to the quick and detailed responses. Thank you all again, if I can figure out how to close this thread I will. <3

Oh I think a mod needs to lock it? Please do so mod peoples as my issue is gone! Thanks

Try the other 2 places.

Normally you have four and but two memory channels and with two memory sticks you want to use dual channel so you want one stick on each controller.

However "daisy chain" connection of the two memory sockets is the usual method for them so then the lanes / connections between the CPU and memory socket is drawn first from CPU to one socket and then to the next socket meaning the socket with a greater distance is worse and hence you want to use the one closer to the CPU.

ASUS and maybe some more company use "T-topology" which mean that they draw the lanes from the CPU to inbetween the two sockets and then connect both of them meaning they both get the same quality but then none get even better quality.

I don't know if the issue is your sockets isn't working well or whatever you run overclocked RAM (XMP on), if you use XMP then you could disable it or at-least change the frequency to what your CPU officially support which for a 7700K one is 2400 MHz. Maybe that help it function.

Do you use memory slot 2 and 4 from the CPU? At-least not 1+2 or 3+4?

DIMM A2 and B2 is what they show in the manual:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1227368/Msi-Z270-Sli-Plus.html?page=5#manual
Though from what I wrote before personally I think it would had made more sense to use DIMM A1 and B1 since those would be closer to the CPU and should be better?
(Slots being DIMM A1, A2 and then B1 and B2.)

You probably know this already, but I'll say it again anyway: Take this up with your parts store, your warranty covers this. You should have no trouble getting it replaced, with luck within a week or two. Although being the holidays it might be a bit slower.
