GTX 1060 6GB SC or SSC?
Im getting an Oculus Rift soon but I kinda wanna upgrade because im not sure if my current GTX 1060 3GB SC will perform so great considering its low vram so should I get a GTX 1060 6GB SC or SSC? Im kinda tempted to go with the SSC because it seems to be cheaper on Amazon. Any answers will be appreciated.

It will be a minor upgrade really, I'd save your cash a bit longer and step up to a 1070 or see how the rumoured 2060 lines up, while the vram will help, the card itself will still be a bit lacking in raw power.

Good point but im kinda on a budget.
did you check the difference between those cards?

well hard to suggest any gpu without any information on your system but is there any reason to go sc instead of ssc if they are the same price?

I'd hold off on buying a new card, see how your existing one does, vr and on a budget doesn't mix to well, and the added vram won't be much help when you lack raw power.

As for which card to get, they are both reference boards just with slightly different factory overclocks, get the cheapest and oc it yourself.
The difference between the 3 and 6GB 1060s is pretty low, not worth buying a new card.
I run the Vive with a 1060 6gb and an i7 6700k, and i rarely have issues with lag.

It's highly recommended that you have at least an i5 or Ryzen 5 CPU for VR. Oculus Rift recommends an i5-4590. Your i3 is a little bit better but Oculus is kind of outdated (as nobody really uses it anymore, HTC Vive is more popular?) and it will struggle with demanding titles.

I ran rift with an r3 2200g, 1060 3gb and 8gb ram for a while and suffered from no lag at all. Ran really good to be honest. Only game that wouldn’t run well was Doom VFR. So I’d try it yourself before deciding on upgrades

Good to know, thank you.

The new i3 is the old i5! Don't confude people more than needed. OP's i3 beats the listed i5 slightly.

I literally said the i3 is better than the requirement, but only by around 10%. The point is that he shouldn't expect to get amazing performance in some VR instances. In most cases, it'll be fine, but like someone else said, there will be a few games that struggle and it will ruin the experience for those games. If there's too much fluctuation in FPS even if you get high FPS, that ruins it as well because it'll look choppier.

If you’re on a tight budget even more reason not to do a minor upgrade. Wait until you’ve got more money to do a more worthwhile upgrade.
