i trust seasonic and silverstone psus

in my country, the philippines, authorized resellers offer the usual 1 year warranty on seasonic while silverstone is usually offered with 3 years warranty.

local distributor of silverstone is active in a local forum last time i checked more than 1 year ago.

CX is better out of those. You should look into the modular versions though:
CX550M and M12II 520/620 EVO edition.

Depending where you're from, there is better deals currently.

The seasonic s12 is rated as quality tier D. The cx is likely to be tier C or D but could be anything depending on the exact model. Which means don't buy either as there are better quality psus available.

If possible, buy something from the first two or three tiers off this list.

In my experience of Corsair PSUs, I've found them to be trash, all three died within 2 years and one of them was within a few months.

Corsair doesn't make PSUs, it buys components and badge-engineers them. Some are outstanding, like the early Ax series. Others are absolutely dreadful. It really depends on what you were buying - you could get a gem or a disaster waiting to happen.

My first-gen Corsair Ax has lasted me since 2013 without any issues, but that's a really expensive 80+ Platinum PSU sourced from a top OEM.

I know they don't but that doesn't really affect my point, buying a Corsair branded PSU is a lottery. It's better to buy a PSU from Seasonic or Super Flower.

Honestly, if you are PSU shoping right now I would say that the absolute best option in tersm of price/quality is at Frys.

They have a 1050w PC Power and Cooling 80+ Platinum fully modular for $120 USD.

Thats a PSU comparable to Seasonic's high end, and *better* than top of the line options from either corsair or EVGA.

For those too young to remember, PC Power and Cooling is an old school big name in the PSU market, being the first company to do things like offer a 1,000w PSU...

Good find, that's a lot of PSU for $120.

And I'm glad to see PC P&C still around and staying classy.

Is this the psu that Tom's gave 3.5 out of 5 to and is Tier C on the psu tier list?

The brand is on some "tier C list" but I dont think its Toms.

Tom *did* give it a 3.5/5 (or 7/10) *BUT* if you take the time to *read* the review you will see that in that exact reivew they put it side by side Seasonic, as well as things like Corsair HX1000i lines.

In the review, in Toms testing, this PSU beat out anything except Seasonic, *and* when tore down has great internal parts.

Their *only* gripe about it was an issues with a power good signal, which they dinged it hard for.

So yes, *when compared to Seasonic* it gets a 3.5/5 and beats out the other competitors like Corsair and Konlink and FSP.

Definantly a case where you should read a whole review over just looking at a base score, the score is decieving alone if you dont know what the product was compared against to get such a score to begin with.

See here, where they clearly show it beating out Corsair HX line in both efieciecy and overal performance rating (and value) and this review was with the unit priced at $180 MSRP and not 120...

Here is the componant breakdown showing that its built usinng quality componants from a reputable PSU OEM Parts builder, High Power. I can confirm having purchased a clearance Fry's model that the one they are selling is the same unit, I compared the tear down pictures to what I was able to see of the internals of my unit before install.

At the end of the day, if you read that whole review, it becomes pretty obvious that the only real reason they gave it a low score at all was the issue with the power good signal, which for all anyone knows was a one off issue on their unit. Aside from that one issue Toms found very little fault with the PSU at all and was impressed by its internal build quality and overall performance per dollar at 180 MSRP. Given that, its a very good option at 120 with 80+ plat, where the other comparable options in 1kw range and that price are all from low end brands and at best 80+ bronze.
