Quick Question ond DUal Channel RAM
Okay I'm upgrading my ram. Now my mobo has 4 ramslots, two dual chanal paired banks A and B.
Lets call the ramslots A0, A1, B0, B1

Now currently in hav 1gb DDr2 in A0, A1, B0, & B1 for a total of 4gb. This configuration means of course that everything is being dual channelled.

Now for the question. If I upgrade A0, And A1 with 2x2gb sticks. and while keeping the 1gb chips in B0 and B1 respectively. Will the dual channeling still work?

run the 2x2gb sticks in A1 & B1

dual channel will still work but you want maximum capacity on A1 and B1

You sure?
A 0,1 are a paired. The slots are the same colour on the mobo

Miss Ann Thrope eredeti hozzászólása:
Consult your motherboard manual, if you still have it. But dual channel is usually A1/B1.
Nah on this pupy that's how they're listed and labeled, the A's are black, and the B's are Blue.

black slots are primary slots. 2nd and 4th slot from cpu is primary channel. colored slots are not

are you sure there are 2 black next to eachother?

A0 - Black

A1 - BLack
B1 - Blue

assuming A0 is closest to your cpu then you want to put the 2x2gb sticks in B0&B1

never seen a motherboard that wants the ram closest to the cpu first. usually the primary slots are black but i guess that depends on age and manufacturer
The answer is yes dual channel will work.

I would suggest setup like this to keep the pair match in their respective channel for best results.
A0 = 2GB
A1 = 1GB
B0 = 2GB
B1 = 1GB

B1 = 2GB
This is the board in question:
I got the order of blue and black backwards there.

yea like i said earlier the 2 black slots are the first channel you should occupy with the highest capacity modules.

:calm_creep:[HAL] I'm afraid i can't do that Dave.[/hal]

Sorry but I after 4 successful Wilpower checks against 'tell bad Joke' failing the 5th was a statistcal certainty.

I'll give it a shot in the morning. Is there any way to test whether things are working in dual channel mode?

Ah, it's blue, black, blue black.

Put the 2GB into the l
Blue slots, the 1GB into the black slot, I downloaded your PFT on my phone, had to scroll to find your ram slot.
