Is an rx 580 8gb acceptable to pair with an fx 6300 cpu

I just purchased a gigabyte rx 580 8gb for a very good sale price. My current setup looks like this:

Windows 10
1050 ti 4gb
FX 6300 (stock clock but with xboost on)
8gb ram
AM3+ ASRock 970 mobo
430 watt thermaltake PSU (I believe, will doublecheck when i get home)

I have a 165hz 1080p freesync monitor and I am hoping this card will upgrade my gaming experience in the interim of upgrading to ryzen or intel. Will I see a bottleneck very often? ( I do not play many open world, cpu intense games tbh) I am just looking to see what kind of value I have gotten here or if the bottleneck will make it futile until i get the new cpu. Thanks in advance, and helpful responses only please :)

You will see bottleneck quite a bit. But it will still be an upgrade from 1050TI.

You will be better off upgrading the CPU instead.

That CPU will hold back any GPU in any modern game.

The FX 6300 will bottleneck it. 165 fps will not be achievable, so it's a good thing you have Freesync (you could have trouble holding 60fps, depending on the game).

Even with the bottleneck, the RX 580 is a good card that should remain viable at 1080p past your next cpu upgrade.

These are good answers. I hear a lot about bottlenecks and I am aware that my cpu is bottlenecking me in several games (assassin's creed, just cause 3, ghost recon wildlands) But I get close to or over 60 fps on high or ultra in 99% of the 230+ games I have on steam, so my cpu is not causing me much grief since I do not play AAA open world games very often. I am hoping to see at least a good increase in certain games' graphics that are not overly reliant on my cpu, so most of them.

Also, what is a good, reasonably priced cpu that I could upgrade to? I also want to keep the same build just swapping the mobo, but will I really have to buy windows 10 again?

Currently Ryzen 5 2600. Although the price is starting to go up.
It's best to wait until early next year for the 3rd generation of Ryzen.

You also don't necessarily need to get new Windows 10 license. If you have normal retail key, they can be transferred. Some OEM keys can too but that's a bit of lottery with them.

I will wait for third gen ryzen and try to transfer my key. Last question and I pray you can answer: I have an evga gtx 1050ti plugged in right now. I have no experience swapping graphics cards but did swap my 4300 for a 6300 myself. Will I have the proper plugs or ports or whatever necessary to just take the 1050ti out and put the rx580 in? My case appears to have more than enough room.

Of course. If you have now, you will have them with the upgrade as well.

Just thought of something, last question, I swear: Will my 430 watt thermaltake psu be sufficient for the rx 580 8gb?

AMD recommends a 500 Watt PSU minimum for an RX 580.

This is a bad question, I know, and I believe its possible that my psu is 500 watts already. But say if it is 430 and i use it, what would potentially happen?

430w will be doable, the machine will not pull much more then 300w.

If the GPU does not get enough power the PC will crash. It can also damage hardware as the PSU will be supplying insufficient power to all hardware not just the GPU. It could be sufficient becuase of course there is a heallthy safefy margin built into those recommendations.

The RX 580 alone draws 185 Watts. Here is AMDs spec sheet.

a 1050 Ti only uses 75w, so thats quite a difference between the 2.

Goodness, you are right. I will take a look and see when i get home. I always thought my power supply was 500 watt, but the spec sheet of the original build says 430. I remember reading 500 on the side of it many times so here's hoping my memory serves. PSU's aren't usually too expensive but the card was already a purchase that I had no business making lol

thermaltake PSUs have been known to be kinda sucky depending on the model

tbh, id stick with the 1050 Ti and at the very least upgrade to an FX 8350 or similar(if your motherboard can handle it).

youd get better performance out of that then pairing a decent GPU with a hella crappy CPU
