16GB RAM installed, Total Memory only 8GB , what do?

i have 2x8 GB RAM sticks which only have a label relating them to my mother board ;
ASUS A68HM Plus. I bought most of the PC pre-made, so am just as in the dark about the exact origins as you are. And before you ask: yes, i do have a 64 bit operating system

Ok so ive tried to fix this by myself by looking at what worked for others because i am not the only one having this issue ,but of corse, none of it has worked . Ive tried everything from checking the cap in the msconfig menu, re-seating my RAM sticks, to updating my BIOS and raising the voltage to 1.5V; All of which failed to make an impact. However somethings i noticed were that both the BIOS and windows its self seem to aknowledge that i have 16GB installed and both say that the total memory only comes down to 8GB. i also tried inserting the sticks individually , both seem to work in both slots , just not together.

I really could use some help here lads.

Ok, after looking in "Ressourcenmonitor" (translates to "resource monitor" sorry my PC is in German) The missing 8GB seems to be reserved for hardware, i honestly dont know what that means.

Looks like one slot is A channel, the other is B.

What version of the BIOS are you currently running? The website mentions an update in addition to a flash utility...

Also, are both sticks of RAM the exact same size, model, brand, etc? I know it may sound kind of messed up but sometimes motherboards are really picky about mixing RAM.

yeah i understand its all good mate. i just updated the BIOS today, and as far as the Sticks themselves, they are both 8GB 1600GHZ, and as far as i know the same model and brand.

I believe I have located the answer--or at least part of it: if you have an updated copy of the user manual for your motherboard it mentions, under section 2.5 something called an Ai Tweaker menu--this would be the area of your BIOS where you adjust all the settings for the memory on your motherboard from voltage to frequency, multipliers, timing, etc. If these are set incorrectly then your motherboard may "see" the memory modules but it won't automatically know the correct voltage/speed/clock/details to send or receive to/from the modules (even if you set it to auto) and it won't know how to correctly communicate with the modules. **A word of caution: you can damage the memory modules/sticks if you aren't very careful with the settings in the previously mentioned menu.**

The manufacturer of the memory or the merchant you purchased them from (if a reputable vendor) should've provided you with all of the details needed to set you BIOS correctly--if not I'm sure you can call and ask them.

Problem with that is, I don't know the exact origins of the sticks, the pc was for the most part pre assembled due to my previous one being an absolute Dinosaur; the closest thing they have to any sort of branding is a rather bland looking label that reads :

" DDR3 1600GHZ 8GB
Major Chip for AMD 1720
Warranty void if removed"

This exact same label is present on both chips
Any idea what the middle part might mean?

if the board has ddr3 and ddr4 slots, you can not use both at the same time

Sounds like a label some big-box company slapped on there so they could ship it out the door asap without any effort at actual customer service instead of an IT supplier or professional that depends on human interactions for their livelihood. All I know is there should be some branding identifiers on the RAM sticks to indicate the manufacturer so that you can obtain the specific requirements for their modules--without that information it will be a guessing game. There's no magic trick or piece of software that can pull it off the modules I'm aware of.

you have an APU (cpu with built in gpu) such that your total system memroy of 16GB is lessened by 8GB assigned/dedicated to the built-in gpu

you have an APU (cpu with built in gpu) such that your total system memroy of 16GB is lessened by 8GB assigned/dedicated to the built-in gpu

Is there any way to rectify that? i do have a dedicated GPU after all.

you also have an rx580, which should disable the igp
boot to bios, and disable the apus gpu it if it is not disabled by default
and make sure the monitor is plugged into the gpu, not the mobo

Yea I got it plugged into the GPU , in fact none of the Mobo's display ports actually work whilst my GPU is active.

The Ram sticks themselves are very plain, I can't seem to find any other labels stuck on them, is there a some sort of serial number or something printed on the stick itself?

Um, not sure if this may solve part of the problem you're having or not but I found a thread from a hardware board that I believe might be discussing the same memory RAM modules that you have. It's not in English though but what's important is at the bottom of the thread is a link to a datasheet describing all of the details for the modules and how they found the identifying marks located on the sticks themselves. I must say they are apparently quite an unusual brand.

It's quite alright , I do actually speak German , I'll give it read when I get home and I'll keep ya posted , thanks for all the help so far :)
