help with psu.
I recently bought a cheap pre built pc of of ebay. the pc had a gt 710 in it and i want to upgrade to a Msi Nvidia Geforce gtx 750ti OC single fan. the computer is a hp elite 8300 with a stock psu ranging at 240w. i am aware this is an sff pc and the graphics card i have bought is a full size, but it can fit in the case without the case door on which doesnt bother me. can my psu handle this graphics card without blowing up and taking my rig with it? if you need to know the specifications for the psu look up the hp elite 8300 powersupply and get the specs of of google. I would give you the specs for the powersupply but I am not really that good with psu's and have no idea what to do with them. If this psu cant support the graphics card, could someone give me a list of some cheap power supplys that could fit in the case and support the card that i bought? If you could get back to me asap that would be great!

Thanks!

that case and mobo will not support a standard atx power supply
it uses a custom btx psu made by hp/compaq

since it is an sff build you can use the gtx 750 in it with no problems since its very limited on what other hardware can be installed in it

on the aliendell x51 people used a gtx 970 and 1060 with its 330w power brick

so i could use the gtx 750ti oc single fan with the 240w powersupply? it says the minimum is 300w. If i install the graphics card with 240w will it damage my pc?

For the X51 + 240W, GTX 750 shouldn't be any problem since such GPU draws under 75w at max load. Ones like GTX 970 draw 2 to 3 times that much, thus require more power overall

Be cautious with the 750 Ti you look at as there are some of them that requires a 6pin PCI-E connector

Its kinda iffy even for those that dont need one with how sucky that PSU is though

i dont think it has a 6 pin, even if it does the gt 710 i have in it now has a 6 pin (i think)
the psu says it is 12v and it is 16a.
is that good?
If i use the gtx750ti with this are you sure im not gonna burn down my house haha

there was another post on here the other day of some guy who owned the 8300 and he was saying the 750ti didn't fit without leaving the side panel off.. might wanna check the measurements to make sure you don't end up in the same boat.

there are plenty of low profile cards out there that are better than the 750ti.. the 1050 for example

I was that other guy XD
I already have the card, if it doesnt fit im going to refund it or resell it and get the gt 1030 as i have a tight budget.
But if the card fits, are you saying i can safely use it with the 240w??

it will either work or it won't.. there is no risk of things catching fire. without knowing the entirety of your other components power needs i would estimate they need 150w worst case scenario. that leaves you with 90w to power a 75w card. if your power supply is overloaded it will just shut off. but i think you would be fine.

well to do some math, my cpu uses 70w, i have 8gb ddr 1600mhz ram. and a cd drive that shouldnt use too much if im not using it right? to be honest i dont even know if it will fit so ill just try it out

the mobo does not have the 24 and 4/4+4 pin power connectors
it uses a custom psu with 6, 4 and 6 pin connectors

but the card i bought does not require a 6 pin connector, it takes all the power from the pci slot

Those are very odd connectors, better pics here[chinahao.com] - the P1 could be the WTX 12V[pinouts.ru] and the P3 could be the standard 12v[pinouts.ru] we are all familiar with - but those brown wired geez - best test with a meter to confirm. And that P2 is an oddball, from the looks of it could be the PS_on sensor and the other lines that are needed for typical ATX connections.

Possible you can re-wire with a normal ATX PSU but just need to be careful and going to look like hell since it's going to be outside the case, should work as long as it's grounded properly.
