What GPU should I upgrade to for 1080p gaming?
I want to upgrade my GPU which is a MSI RX 470 4GB since I am seeing lag and low fps in my games.

My PC specs:
OS: Windows 10 pro 64 bit
CPU: Intel I5 7500 @ 3.40 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
GPU RX 470 4GB

If one day you decide to upgrade the i5 then going for another low level gpu now is going to leave you needing another gpu.

470 to 1060 is not worth the money.

update:

Some games benefit from overclocking the 470, which might help with performance -

RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB
either will do the trick

Upping to 16GB at some point will help also depending on the games you play

Thanks I will go for the GTX 1060 6GB. Since it seems to have more performance than the RX 580

you're in a tough spot here. performance wise, the 470 sits in between the 1050 ti and 1060. you'd be buying a new graphics card only to move up one spot in performance. yes you'd get better fps, but the fps improvement doesn't justify the cost in my opinion.

in your situation i would hold off and lower some settings to get by at least until we see what the 2060 is capable of.

Disagree, the move from 470 to 580/1060 is not big enough imo.

To OP: Your card is still quite decent for 1080p gaming, if you wanna upgrade I would go for a 1070/RX vega 56 AT LEAST. Or you could just wait for the GTX 2060.

Yup, to top out 1080p the GTX1070/70ti easily.

Moving from an Rx 470 to Rx580/GTX1060 really is a stupid move, barely a tier up.

I too have an RX 470 - a 4GB MSI Armor - and have been contemplating an upgrade for a while (turn shadows and AA down, though, and it still does all right at 1080p). The RX 580 / GTX 1060 offer around 20% more performance, which for me isn't enough of an upgrade. GTX 1070 / RX Vega 56 offer around 85% more performance, which is a more tangible improvement.

I agree 100% I have done severel hours of "research" on video cards - today 9/15/18 - and I would wait (My personal choice is the GTX 2050 (money 'ya know)) Or if $$$ is good - I'd get the RTX-2070 for the price / proformance point.

But I would wait.
Please tell us you'll wait!
Good luck to you!..>>Kevin

Yea now that I look at it the gtx 1070 will be better since it will give 80% more performance than the 1060. But since its £300 - £400 I will cope with my rx 470 till Christmas to get it, thanks guys

No it's not. The 1070 is approximately 35% faster than 1060 6GB, not even close to 80%.

That's not really the case either, it's more like 60%.

Well at least it's still more than 40% so its will be worth it.

If you play online games lag cld be due to ping. Else try upping your RAM before going for a new GPU.
