1280x1024 or 1280x720 Which one is better?
1280x1024 >>>> 5:4
1280x720 >>>> 16:9

As far as I'm searching on the internet, HD is only available on 16: 9 aspect ratios. So 1280x720 is better.
But 1280x1024 is better if we look at the numbers. So, which one is better?

1. I mean which one has better quality?
2. I have an old monitor and my monitor's max resolution is 1280x1024. I want to see if it's better than HD.

It's the same, it just has more vertical space.

1280x1024 has of course more height. And thus the total amount of pixels is bigger.
And so it will be more demanding.

1280x1024 = 1.31 million pixels
1280x720 = 921 600 pixels

But why would such low resolutions be your choices? Are you looking for a old laptop?

1280x1020 isn't even a standard resolution. Why aren't you using a 1080p monitor? Wouldn't that make sense in 2018?

Use 1280x1024, it give more details and space and is your native aspect ratio.
Both of them are old old old and outdated technology. You should be using at least a 1920x1080 LED panel today just to do basic tasks like watching youtube at full resolution.Also most websites are designed for at least 1920x1080 screens today.

1280x1024 hands down is a lot better, that and i still use it saves power.
The former, obviously...

1280x1024 is a higher res

both have the same number of vertical colums
1024 is more horizontal rows

for a new monitor get someting over 1600x900
1920x1080 has been the standard for over 10 years

https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey
60% have a 1920x1080 monitor
35% of multimon have 2x of those 3840 x 1080

Ladies and gentlemen, calm down. I know 1920x1080 resolution has become the standard. I know 1280x1024 is too old. I know new games and YouTube videos no longer support 1280x1024 resolution. But I don't have much money and my graphics card is very slow for 1920x1080. Sometimes I get low fps even at 1280x1024 resolution. If I get a 1920x1080 monitor, I can't play most of my games I'm playing right now.(sorry for my english)
_I_ Sep 15, 2018 @ 9:18am
you can always set the game to run at a lower res than the monitor
most monitors have an option to scale or run that res as native in center
or you can use gpu options to scaling/center the game at the lower res
Centrius Sep 15, 2018 @ 11:41am
Which one can I get more fps? 1280x1024 or 1280x720?
