Windows Updates > Advanced

Before Gaming...
Task Manager > Services > Windows Updates > Stop

If merely checking for Updates is an issue for your internet i would think youd have a bigger problem than just Win Update.

I think OP is suggesting they are auto-downloading while Gaming.
However in Win10 1803, when you go into the Windows Updates settings, there is even options to limit the bandwidth it will be allowed to use for max at any given time, which can be helpful. Just don't forget it's on or limit it down too much, as then Updates will just take a heck of alot longer to complete. You can also set a period of time you'd prefer to have it check/download such updates. For example; a period of time when you're sleeping with the PC running idle, or simply when not Gaming to doing over intensive tasks.

Stopping the Windows Updates Service prior to Gaming/Streaming is a good idea though.
The service will be restarted automatically if you log-off/on again, or reboot the system.

You're using windows 10. You can't stop updates. You can defer it and turn it off temporarily, but you have to install them at some point. Windows update runs when ever it wants to without your permission and you can't change that. You pretty much just have to deal with it if you continue using windows 10.

Windows 10 Pro users can by using the GPM. Problem is that it is ill-advised to do so because the updates often involve major security updates.

Anyone having update issues should check this handy piece of software out.
