Moving a pc what safe to put inside it
So I'm moving in a week I need ideas on what to put in my PC case so it dose not shift around or get damaged or shocked

this is my current pc

I dont have any styrofoam or bubble wrap laying around

So I was thinking of crumpling up paper and getting it soft and just cramp packing my pc full

No I'm not shipping it just moving it and I it will be in my lap but the cars bumpy and roads are terrible

Also will be throwing it in the orgional box

Do you think it will be good btw not taking my processor out as I have a giant heatsink on it and dont have the tools to take it out and re apply thermal paste

My graphics card i could take out but was thinking of leaving it also and just cramming the pc full of crumpled paper

Was thinking of plastic bags first but they conduct electricity but not alot but would still be a risk

Anyones thoughts on what else house hold items I could use?

Maybe a towel? But that conducts electricity tho also

Really wish I has some soft styrofoam or bubble wrap but sadly I dont have any

I have black from from my CPU box but sure if its anti static tho dont think it is

I have 2 black bags that are anti static I'm assuming as that's what my motherboard and graphics card came in

Was gonna fill it with something and then fold it and shove it into the open spaces of my pc

Also there was black foam in there also not sure if it is anti static tho

threw mine in a u-haul no issues

Just be careful transporting it. I usually kept mine with me in the front passenger seat of my car just in case.

Are you planning on driving off a small cliff or something. I don't thinlk stuffing the inside of your PC with anything is a good idea. Crumpled paper retains static electricity. Besides the fact that would not really cushion anything. The shock is going to be from the outside...not originating inside the case. If you are very worried about it take the GPU out of its slot and transport it in its retail box if you still have it. Everything else inside should be solidly attached. If you have a large air cooler attached to your CPU this also could put strain on the CPU if there is to much shock applied to the case but there not much you can do about it. I have dropped my entire PC on a hard floor from a height of about 3 feet while carrying it and the front cover I was carrying it by came off. It had no effect on its operation. I suggest transporting it where other things can not bash into it like on the front seat next to you or on the floorboard by itself.

Just keep it on ots aide to minimize stress from the gpu and cpu cooler
Of you have a custom water cooling system, drain it and do leak checks on the other side

Remove the gpu, and, if you have one, tower cooler if you are that worried. Thise are the only parts that may be stressed in a move.

One more vote for removing the GPU and carrying it separately.

yes ill remove the Graphics card but dont have anything to put it in and no anti static bags

I sometimes bring my PC up to my parents house when my family visits, it's a 3~4 hour drive never had problems just laying it down on its side to prevent stress to the CPU HSF and GPU.

Although if I was anticipating some rough road or even an accident, probably best to remove both the GPU and the CPU heatsink and yes absolutely get a static bag for the GPU at the very least.

It's up to you, I have brought my PC up there dozens of times and it's simliar to yours, 2500k w/ the 212 evo and an R9 390 and never had a problem since it was a smooth trip every time.

well dont know what to do i dont have anything to stuff it with and i can remove and insert the graphics card easy but dont have a anti static bag as for the processor if i take that out i dont have anyone who can re apply thermal paste for me and im not touch that myself

im good with computer software but hardware NOPE!!!

its not a long car ride maybe 30min max but still

Also cant wait for the new smash bros direct August 8th

If all you have is crumpled up paper to use as a cushion, your best bet may be to leave everything together in the case then get a box that's bigger than the case and first line it with the crumpled paper on the bottom then lay the case on it's side (cpu and gpu up) on the paper and make sure it provides a good enough cushion of at least 3". Then get more paper and do the same for all the sides and eventually the top. Should be good enough just use a lot of paper / newspaper.

Just drive carefully with it buckled into the front passenger seat. If you have everything screewed in properly, you will have no trouble transporting it whatsoever. No foam needed, just the ability to lift it. I have done three moves on my various PC's over the years to know that this works.

In the uk the roads are crap old full of potholes and bumps everywhere so really a big risk to leave the heatsink and gpu plugged in. If you expect a smooth ride shouldn't be much of a problem to lay it on it's side on some cushioning but otherwise a risk imo. I wouldn't put paper due to the static issue.
