The more RAM I have the less I can overclock.
So before I had 16GB of HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM, factory overclocked from 1333 MHz to 1866 MHz. I overclocked it to 2000 MHz, and it was perfectly stable for 1 month, then I bought another 16GB of the same exact ram to make 32GB of DDR3 RAM. I tried booting with 2000 MHz overclock, and it either popped up the debug code "55" or said "overclocking failed. I lowered my ram count back down to 2 and it did the same thing.

But I went ahead and did one stick of 8GB and booted into windows with an overclock of 2133 MHz. And it was stable, until I blue screened. But I was never able to get that high of an overclock before. Why is this happening?

I've reset CMOS many times
I've randomized where the RAM is and placed it in different slots.
My bios has been updated to the newest, which is update 1603.
I've changed my DRAM Voltage from 1.5 to 1.6

I seriously do not know what else I can possibly do.

I've already contacted their support, and I'm awaiting a reply. But I'm just wondering if anyone else had an issue with this and if you were able to fix it. Can someone help me out?

That’s pretty normal.

All the world 🌎 records are with fewer DIMMs.

what cpu?

aii/pii c2 can run 4 dimms but at a max of 1333, or 2 dimms can run at 1800+

or there may be 1 dimm that does not like the higher speed

I currently have the i3 4160 3.60 GHz, but I'm buying the i7 4790K in 2 weeks.

that should be fine with 4 dimms

try each pair at the higher speed, and see if one dimm does not like it

i wouldnt go over 1.55v on the ram voltage, it may damage the cpus imc

So I tried with 2x8 GB instead, I ran them at 2000 MHz and booted into windows without problems.

I removed those 2 ram sticks. But the other 2 ram sticks in the same spot as the other ones that worked. And it said "overclocking failed". Are those 2 ram sticks possibly less stable? Or do I need to just get a replacement pair?

@ I also lowered the voltage down to 1.55

Not every RAM stick is equal, it just happens your new RAM won't clock as high. Not being able to OC your RAM over factory spec really isn't a reason to return it, but if they will take it back you can try another set that might be binned better to hit your target MHz or it may be the same as your current set.

It's normal for ddr3 and ddr2 when using all 4 dimm slots. Just enable xmp and leave it alone. If u want to OC do that to your cpu and gpu, never your ram
_I_ Aug 5, 2018 @ 10:08am
check their xmp profiles
if they require different timings for the 2000 speeds you will need to use the higher timings to hit those speeds with the dimm
