GTX 1060 or GTX 1050 ti with AMD PHENOM II X4 965 BE
Hi, well, that's it. I would like you to support me in deciding which video card is better for my processor. And please do not tell me to change the processor or anything like that, I would just like to know if the 1060 will make a noticeable bottleneck that really harms the performance of that card and also if with my processor there is a noticeable difference between the 1050 ti and the 1060-

My hardware is:
PROCESSOR: AMD PHENOM II X4 965 BE
MB: GA 880 USB3 from GIGABYTE
12 GB RAM
SOURCE COOLERMASTER 500W

Yeah there would most likely be a decent bottleneck with a 1060
less so with a 1050 Ti, but likely there would still be one.
its time for a new build
the pii 965 was one of the better am3 cpus, beats many fx6-8
but is no match for a current gen i3 or ryzen cpu

the 1050ti is a decent gpu for 1080p or lower res, but would be bottlenecked by the cpu in current games
Try to overclock the phenom, 12 GB are still good nowadays.
1050ti is the maximum recommended GPU for that CPU, don't go higher.
With higher resolution (1920x1080p) the CPU would become less important in terms of performance.
My suggestion is:

1920x1080p
low settings
FXAA (disable all antialiasing)

You should be fine.
Anything over basically GTX 570/580 is too much for that CPU, to where the CPU will hold back the GPU from performing as it should by default.

But in the need of a newer GPU, then 1060 6GB minimum is the way to go.
But I'd really look to ditching that entire AM3 build and building around AMD Ryzen or Intel 8th Gen; then your hardware will actually work well together, perform easily 10X better and run things lagg-free.

880/890 Chipset and a decent CPU cooler = should be able to reach 4.0 - 4.2 Ghz on that CPU quite easily.

Tbh, the GTX1060 would get you higher fps even with the bottleneck then when and if you find the $$$ to swap out your cpu/mobo/ddr4 someday you'll have a GTX1060 6GB that you can use again.

I still have a x4 965 I keep for fun testing new gpus on, I did test the Rx 580 and GTX1060 on it months ago.

Worst case ^.

get the 1060 so you can carry it through a cpu upgrade
I watched a benchmark of the rise of the tomb raider the other day with a phenom ii 965 and a 1050ti and the cpu stayed below 90% the whole time. Sometimes as low as 78%...

The gpu was maxed the whole time at 99%/100%

It depends on the game... Some are more gpu intensive others are more cpu intensive, but the point being in this case the 1050ti bottle necked the phenom as the phenom still had quite abit of headroom to play with at points.

Check what games you want to play... See if they tend to be more cpu or gpu intensive. But tbf at 1080p high (not ultra) settings, you should get very playable framerates with a phenom ii... For now.

Having said this... Most AM3 boards support pci-e 2 and so are not making the most of the 1050ti which is pci-e 3 (I think) conpatable. So maybe this could be the reason for the results above, meaning that the combo of mobo and cpu are bottlenecking the gpu... so in essence yes the cpu could be... but this is all theoretical :p

You have probably already made up you mind and purchased by now but for others still considering this, it's something to think about.
