Going from air to an aio
I just got my new aio cooler tonight, got it installed, ready to go. The temps are not any better than when I had my air cooler, they are actually all over the place if not worse, I had a noctua cooler and I guess im just suprised the aio is not even keeping the temps the same or even close for that matter... Just some food for thought for anyone else out there looking to go to liquid, Ill be the first to say, it might not be worth it at all lol. Im using a R1700 for my cpu.

Try reseating tho ill admit on ryzen the temp drop isnt as big as it is on 5ghz+ intels
That is why I only recommend an AIO when doing it for the looks. An air cooler gives you the same performance for less then half the price.

And then there is the fact that these things are not really user servicable. You can swap the fan on an air cooler, you can't swap the pump on an AIO. And then we also have the fact that these things usually only live for 3-5 years.
Well I did not want to over tighten the screws, didnt want to risk breaking one. But yes, I suppose I just wanted to try one, Ill never get rid of my air cooler, notcua makes some of the best honestly. I can say that I have solid exp with both haha.

Noctua coolers are solid and like I said the difference on ryzen isnt very much if you ever buy an intel cpu and overclock consider water cooling

I don't see the link between requiring an AIO and overclocking Intel CPUs. :/

The AIO will not perform any better then the Noctua NH-D15 or similar coolers. It might even perform worse after running the PC under load for a few hours.

Well I would assume that I could, It just came today. But my computer is acting all messed up now, voltages are all over the place, even tho my bios was not changed, all of my over clocks reverted back to stock clocks....even tho it says they are still changed, my cpu is back at stock....my ram is back at stock. The bios is not even reading the cpu temp right...or maybe it its....and my software is not right...I dont know, but I have a bad feeling about this....all of this just from installing an aio?

Mine doesnt last time i tested the noctua i had an 13c difference but i have front mounted push pull 280mm
I didnt have that cooler, mine is another noctua, just one heat fin stack.

My voltages are going from 1.2 to 1.4...I have never had this happen before, could an aio really mess with my system this much?

That is probably XFR doing it's thing. It's overclocking the CPU, it does that when you have good cooling.

You have the non-X chip right? Then the XFR overclock should be minimal.
Yes I just have the R1700, non X version. I boosted my over clock back to 3.8....see what happens here. But over all my cpu is much hotter than it was before. I want to say that with the air cooler....it was around 35-40c when idling....and now its going from 45-50c. Im worried about even attempting to benchmark the system...

Did you turn up the pump speed and fans?
Yes if your AIO can be controlled through software make sure the pump is set to performance.
Well I just ran cinebench15, my temps went through the roof....over 70c in an istant. Im going back to my air cooling and sending this back lol.

What kind of cooler is it
Did you use the stock thermal paste that usually comes pre applied on aio's? Perhaps it's no good if so.. Usually the aio pump gets pulled all the way down til it bottoms out on the standoffs..did you tighten it down all the way?
