Help! New gaming computer doesn't run Steam games
My brand new gaming computer runs other games perfectly, but doesn't run Steam games. Well, it runs Steam games at 2 FPS most of the time, and the max it's ever gone up to is 20. My old, non-gaming computer ran them fine. I've already reinstalled the graphics driver and it helped for two minutes, then slowed down again. What can I do to fix this? These are my computer specs:

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8100A Gaming PC
Intel i7-8700 3.2GHz
16GB DDR4
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
120GB SSD
1TB HDD
Win10 Home
Cat 7 Ethernet connection
AOC G2460PF 24” Gaming Monitor (FreeSync, FHD (1920x1080), TN Panel, 144Hz, 1ms)

CyberpowerPC support told me it's a Steam specific problem, since it runs great with non-Steam games. I have had zero luck getting in touch with Steam support.

Please help if anyone knows what to do.

have you connected the video cablefrom the monitor to the proper gpu port (in your gtx 1060) and NOT the motherboard gpu port?

Odd, I can't think of anything Steam might be doing that could cause games launched through it to run poorly. Does the same problem occur if you launch them directly (from the engine .exe)?
Does enabled/disabling Windows 10 game mode affect performance? (press Winkey+g when the game is running)

Yes, I did that. Initially I had it connected incorrectly but it didn't speed up once I connected it correclty.

disable the intel hd in bios
and use only the dedicated gpu

That is poor support, however can’t expect much from builders.

Make sure you update all the drivers to latest

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling steam?
check if the the gtx 1060 is properly powered from the psu.

also, you can
1. reinstall microsoft directx 9.0c (june 2010) redistributable.
get it from microsoft or mirror from trusted site like filehippo, techspot, etc.
2. reinstall visual C++ 2008 redistributable.
these 2 are needed by steam

OEMs like CyberPower are terrible at best and would not have taken the time to install all your official drivers for everything. OEMs are much more lazy and if the OS or Windows Updates has them, that is all they will typically rely on these days. Doing it right is all up to you...

And yes since the OS is fresh, you are going to require what CHIEF listed above, as no WinOS has those by default and it will be required for many Apps/Games.

You will also want to enable these in your Windows 10:
> NET & ASP Frameworks
> Legacy > DirectPlay

To easily get to those, press Winkey+X and click on Control Panel.
In the upper-right corner look for "View By" and change this to either Large/Small Icons.
Click on Programs and Features
Click on Turn Windows Features On/Off on the left-hand side there.
Find those 3 I listed above and check their boxes, then click OK and click on "Get via Windows Updates"

1:NEVER buy an OEM pc, most do not care about what they are giving you and charge much higher than the individual parts, and sometimes don't even get the correct drivers
2:Disable the integrated graphics in BIOS
3:Use DDU (display driver uninstaller, the literal name of the program) to get rid of your gpu drivers, then get your drivers back of nVidia's website
4:If none of that works, reinstall windows, if that still doesn't work, ♥♥♥♥♥ to cyberpower more and they might help

Why do folks keep suggesting to disable the onboard GPU?
Newer PCs usually never have such options anymore.
Simply don't connect to that GPU (the rear Motherboard video outputs) and it will never use that GPU.
