HDMI male to VGA female adaptor advice
I have an LG 24M38 monitor with a HDMI port and a VGA port, and I'm planning to use it for my laptop and for my Nintendo Switch. I could just swap the HDMI cable between the laptop and the Dock as desired, but since the monitor already came bundled with a VGA cable I'm inclined towards putting the VGA port to good use. Relative to HDMI, I have read that VGA suffers from limitations (lower image quality, signal degradation, no audio output). My current plan is to use the HDMI port for my laptop (since I'm gonna need to take the laptop out on a fairly regular basis) and the VGA port for the Switch (since barring a few exceptions the Dock is mostly going to stay put and with Nintendo hardware you're never going to get the best image quality in the market regardless). Is a HDMI male to VGA female adaptor a smart investment or are the downsides not worth the minor convenience of not having to plug a HDMI cable into the Switch dock everytime I fancy some Mario Odyssey?

vga is analog

the hdmi-vga cable was designed for a specific dvd player that outputs the hdmi signal thru the 15pin sub-d (looks like vga) port
the mfg did not want to pay for the rights to put a hdmi port on the player

you will need a hdmi vga converter
or if the laptop has a vga port, you can use that
but vga does not support hdcp (video copy protection)

but its also cheap to buy a hdmi switch

You beat me to this one xD

@OP: As long as you’re OK with 60Hz mode, you shouldn’t have a problem using such adapters.

Get a decent active HDMI switch; avoid anything VGA, especially adapters.
