Asus buys the chips for Nvidia, they might put them on a custom PCB and they slam a custom cooler on it.

Ah thanks! Also does it have a DVI-I port or DVI-D?

DVI-D. nVidia based videocards no longer support DVI-A.

Only digital outputs are still used. Check the specs of the card you are looking to buy, some might only have HDMI (Can be adapted to DVI-D with a $2 adapter) and Displayport.

if you need analog, its itme for a new monitor

but you can get a dp -> dvi-a or dp -> vga converter for under $10

Can I use an active VGA to HDMI? Will my monitor work in BIOS with it?

If you already have a converter, you should be able to keep using it.

I don't have one, that's why I'm asking about the BIOS.

the 15pin sub-d (looks like vga) to hdmi cables are for a specific dvd player that does not have the hdmi port
the dvd player puts out the hdmi signal thru the 15pin sub-d for use with that cable
