Did I mess up by buying a pricey "workstation" for CAD instead of a cheaper gaming laptop?
While shopping for a laptop for college, I got talked into buying a "workstation" laptop to run CAD programs, because I was told that gaming laptops were built differently than workstations, and were very bad at running drafting software. (I had initially planned to buy a ~$600 gaming laptop). The laptop has no problem running CAD, but I have compared it to several other far cheaper laptops that were built for gaming and it doesn't seem to perform any better with drafting software than they do. I ran a couple benchmarks on it and it seems to fall short of standard gaming laptops in every category. Did I waste my money by buying the more expensive computer?
The workstation I bought was an MSI WE62 with i7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and NVIDIA Quadro M2200.

Dont ever buy a "gaming" laptop i did a few years back but ive learnt from it . Go down the build your own pc route you won't regret it you will get a lot more bang for your buck ,I know it's daunting at first but trust me it's just like putting Lego together .

Some software requires a Quadro, refer to the system recommendations of the software you use to see if you really needed a Quadro or not.
