Adding RAM to ACER NITRO 5
I have the core i5 (8th gen) NVIDIA GTX 1050 — 8GB RAM

I wanted to add a 4GB RAM (1.6 ghz) from PNY, to have a total of 12 GB RAM.

It’s only $39.99

Anyone know what kind is compatible??

1600Mhz? Must be DDR3, will not fit in modern machines.

You need DDR4. What is the exact model number of your machine?

It says GDDR5
GDDR5 is what the 1050 uses.
Actually specs say DDR4 SDRAM

But box says GDDR5

DDR4 is the system memery.
GDDR5 is the video memory.

System memory can be upgraded, video memory can not.
Ok but I read RAM is upgradable in this laptop. I need to look for DDR4 RAM 4GB???

Yes you need a DDR4 SODIMM module. But what is the exact model of you laptop? If you currently have a 2400Mhz module installed you probably want another 2400Mhz one. And you need to make sure both memory slots are not already ocupied.

I wouldn't advise running 12gb of memory.. It will severely cripple your memory performance. Go straight to 16gb and keep your memory running in dual channel

If OPs laptop is upgradeable he would currently be running single channel RAM. 8gb + 4gb in Flex Mode will deliver dual channel levels of performance for at least half of the RAM.

It wouldn't cripple anything, it would actaully only improve it. And it's a laptop, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

This is the link to the laptop I have.

Open the laptop and see how many modules it has installed already.

Nowhere is mentioned how many RAM modules it has installed by default.
You will like have two RAM slot on that gaming laptop. So you probably have one more free slot. I would recommend that you take a look at newegg.com I found it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007609%20601190333

Or you can tell me your budget then I can find it for you.
I see. I currently don’t have a tool to open it up, and I only want 4GB, since the 8gb are really expensive. I mainly game Rainbow Six Siege, Tomb Raider, Skyrim, Fallout 4, so don’t think I need more than 12gb of RAM.
4GB would be good enough for your gaming then.
