Question Regarding Z390 Power Connections..

Hi All,

I'm in the process of buying an i9 9900k and the ASUS Z390 ROG Maximus XI Hero MB, but have a question regarding the power connections for it.

It states: Power supply, 1x 24-Pin ATX 12V, 1x 8-Pin ATX 12V and 1x 4-Pin ATX 12V

I currently have the Corsair RM850x psu and looking at the connections on that, there is no 4 pin ATX 12V

Maybe a daft question, but how would i connect the 4 pin from psu to Motherboard..?
Any help would be greatfully appreciated..

4+4 CPU that is your 4 pin, there are two of those on one cable. And you will need 2 of those cables for 3 4pins.

The PC will also work with only a single 4+4pin but just connect everything. According to the manual it will also work with only a single 4pin but then the mobo might overheat.

See i told you it was a daft question, ha ha.

One last thing, the cables from my psu to MB are not long enough, as psu is at the bottom of the case and had to buy an extension for the 8 pin, therefore i would need one for the 4 pin, would this one suffice..?

i think it just refers to entry level motherboards and cpus which have lower power requirements than those enthusiast grade K and mainstream i5 cpus.
if you buy an entry level pentium or i3-8100, then 4pin auxilliary power may suffice.
i5 and higher K cpu may need the full 8pin to be properly powered.

my old i3-530 cpu is connected on my old intel mobo with 4pin auxilliary power (powers cpu; pin is usually near the cpu) . the old main atx power (24pin or 20+4pin) is standard.

my old i5-3570 cpu is in a motherboard with 8pin (or 4+4) auxilliary power.

the 4pin comes from the psu. most psus usually have configured as 4+4pin so you can use it immediately or split it for just 4pin lower power cpu./mobo.

What Case do you have? Unless it is extremely tall, there is no reason why both 8pin EPS cables on that PSU would not reach up and around to the Motherboard top; feed the cables through behind the motherboard tray and up and over to the 8pin connectors on the board.

On ASUS Z390 ROG Maximus XI Hero you want both 8pin + 4pin plugged in, always.
On EPS connectors, they come as 8pin, but split apart in case only a 4pin is needed.

I have the NZXT Phantom 630 White Edition Full Tower, the cables are fed up the cable management behind the mb, but i was still labout 4 inches short for the 8 pin cable..

I have that 8 pin extention already in my current system, but with ordering the ASUS Z390 ROG Maximus XI Hero i will also need to order another extension for the 4 pin, i presume that ordering another the same i can use, as it splits into 2 x 4 pin also..?

Your PSU has 2x 8pin EPS connectors; yes just use 2x of those extensions, then on the 2nd extension open the connection and split off the grouping of 4pin and hide the other half of that behind the motherboard tray.
