plus i don't have it on just in case i get hacked
I recently retired my very old antec p180 case (something like 15 years old - just checked, I built it originally on the day after the 7800GTX got released so 23 June 2005), it had been used 24/7 pretty much for a good 13 years of its life and it still had 2 of its original fans working, with a 3rd dieing a few months back lol, it also had for the past 7 years a corsair h50 aio running again, pretty much 24/7 with its 2 original fans still working perfectly (admittedly it sounds like a bit of liquid may of evaporated over that time lol).
so this idea components will wear out in a year or two of use is kind of bs, perhaps, if you use the cheapest of the cheap parts, but even half way decent parts will last a long time if there isn't an initial fault from manufacture, which is often the cause for component wear and tear.
I did swap out the fans, maybe 3 cases, several HDDs, added an SSD, 4 GPU upgrades (GTX260c216 ~ R9 390), 2 power supply upgrades. I guess, it wasn't the same PC after all that - never mind lol.
my old pii (x2) 545 has been unlocked to a quad and oc'd to 3.4ghz for about the last 10 years
as a file/fax/print server still does its job
im sure there are people with pentium 4 or durons oc'd and still running

And no, hardware doesn't get slower from use. It either works or it breaks. Like the code it runs, it's pretty binary in that aspect.
