I leave mine off when it is not in use and at night time when I go to bed. It would wear out the componenets faster to leav it running 24/7 from what I was taught way back when.

^ quite true, the first victims of 24/7 are sleeve-bearing fans - even the good ones will only last about 5 years and cheap fans that come with cases (like TT) sometimes fail within a year or two...

Those ppl that keep running a PC for 24/7 dont own the same PC for 5 years. They proberly switch every 1+2 years

Honestly, the wear and tear angle only affects mechanical parts and then, you are still talking years of use anyway.

I recently retired my very old antec p180 case (something like 15 years old - just checked, I built it originally on the day after the 7800GTX got released so 23 June 2005), it had been used 24/7 pretty much for a good 13 years of its life and it still had 2 of its original fans working, with a 3rd dieing a few months back lol, it also had for the past 7 years a corsair h50 aio running again, pretty much 24/7 with its 2 original fans still working perfectly (admittedly it sounds like a bit of liquid may of evaporated over that time lol).

so this idea components will wear out in a year or two of use is kind of bs, perhaps, if you use the cheapest of the cheap parts, but even half way decent parts will last a long time if there isn't an initial fault from manufacture, which is often the cause for component wear and tear.

No, I let it go to sleep, but reboot it first thing after I start it back up.

Had my i5-2500k rig for almost 8 years, was 99.9% 24/7...

I did swap out the fans, maybe 3 cases, several HDDs, added an SSD, 4 GPU upgrades (GTX260c216 ~ R9 390), 2 power supply upgrades. I guess, it wasn't the same PC after all that - never mind lol.

Exactly Talby, those ppl upgrading all the time :)

Depending on the room temperature, turning it off does more damage.

And no, hardware doesn't get slower from use. It either works or it breaks. Like the code it runs, it's pretty binary in that aspect.

im a tech and its been scientifically proven that a pc left on has more life span and less problems than a pc thats powered on and off multiple times a day. your pc will let you know when it needs a restart like today, i havent ran steam for like 2 days almost now, went to run it no luck.....a quick restart easily fixed this problem. i will have my uncle back up my claim by the way, steam wouldnt start due to it needing to be updated simple nothing to do with bad drivers peace

if you need to reboot to run a program, thats an issue with your os or program or bad driver
or unnecessary programs using ram ect..
Bad 💀 Motha Apr 23, 2019 @ 9:50am
Usually only time you need to reboot is due to driver and/or OS updates, otherwise you shouldn't need to for weeks or more at the least. Learn how to flush your ram and regain at least 80+% of it back if ever needed to, and doing so dumps the clunky os cache buildup, very simple really

Do you pay the electric bill or your parents, a ups battery backup is a must.
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS), offers guaranteed power protection for connected electronics. When power is interrupted, or fluctuates outside safe levels, a UPS will instantly provide clean battery backup power and surge protection for plugged-in, sensitive equipment.
