Is it worth upgrading from i5-3470 to i7-3770?
Hi, My friend offered me to trade with his i7-3770 for my i5-3470 and I'm going to add 60USD. i7 3rd generation were pretty rare here in PH. I want to know if its worth the upgrade and the additional 60$. I'm not doing productivity tasks just pure gaming(PUBG and some triple A games). My current setup is:

i5-3470
Biostar H61MLV v7.0
HyperX Fury 8gb DDR3 1866MHz single stick
Zotac GTX 1050Ti
Samsung 830 128gb ssd
Seasonic M12ii EVO 620watts.

Any ideas? Thanks.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3770-vs-Intel-Core-i5-3470

if the 3770 is a big enough improvement to justify the trade after reading the specs then go for it. however if you plan to stick with the 1050ti i wouldnt bother. the 3470 is enough for that gpu

Yes it's worth it for $60 + the i5.

This i7 has slightly higher clockspeeds and Hyper Threading. The Hyper Threading is what is going to make the difference here in games which can utilize the extra threads.

i would say yes, too. on the passmark website the i7 has 9295 points and the i5 has 6687 points in a cpu benchmark test. i think it is worth it imho.
kind regards

For modern games, definitely worth it. Although I would go down to 50$ instead of 60$.

Ya i7 3770 is better but then you open up the can of worms that the GTX1050ti and 8GB is kind of skimpy for modern AAA games.

ik this is almost 3 years old but I would get another 8gb ram stick and a gtx 970 after you get the i7 because that is what I'm trying to do rn

As the others have said, go for the i7 3770 as 4C/8T is the bare minimum for a good gaming experience these days. Also, do upgrade your RAM to 16GB as 8GB isn't quite enough these days. My HTPC has an i7 4770K + Z97 mobo + 16GB RAM + GTX 1080 and it's still a good performer for games. Playing games at 4K, so I'd have to lower some ingame graphics settings, but the games still look great and play smoothly as well.

I'd however suggest that the 1050 Ti be upgraded to, perhaps, a GTX 1070 (in the future when budget allows for it) as the 1050 Ti isn't a good gaming card, it wasn't a good gaming card at launch to begin with, let alone now.

I'd say so, If you sell your old CPU, and don't overpay for the i7 then yeah i think that'd be a solid upgrade, 16gbs of ram is defo an upgrade aswell

Hello guys, I still have the i7, 16gb of RAM and an RX470. Still performs well, tried on Cyberpunk and I was suprised it was playable!

if your not planning on a new build anytime soon.go for it for 60 dollars.maybe grab another
8gb ram as well, even better if you could get 16gb of faster ram on the cheap if
your motherboard will support it

I'm sure you've made your decision already, I only suggest you move to the 3770 if you can get it for vary cheap or if you found a junk pc with it in it. Otherwise I'd just stick with what you have and just some money aside to build you a new system.
