Pulling the batteries everytime i want to turn it off would be annoying.
I take it the controller is faulty then?
I had the same problem with mine, I just pulled the batteries off and put them back and it started to work normally again.
The button is sensitive; if you were to press and quickly let up and re-press somehow; then you should simply let go, wait 3 secs and then redo the process and unsure it is pushed evenly.
I have had issues where it seemed to have troubles all simply due to having very low battery levels.
I never bother; I'm used to the "unclip battery and we're done" method, since that is basically how it always is with Xbox360 controller when used on PC.
Plus it's WAY faster. When a game cut-scene comes up, unclip and done.
Gameplay resumes, turn it back on... seriously not an issue.
Walking away, pause game, unclip battery, walk away... I have the unclip + reclip down fairly well; done it for years. Never broken that part of any controller yet.
Can't do that on my DS4 controller; but then again that has Lithium-Ion rechargable; can play for weeks on that sometimes before a serious lengthy charge is needed. Xbox I just use quality regular AA batteries. They last long enough if you are not the 8-12 hours a day kind of gamer. Usually those AA in an Xbox controller can last me months before I have to change em out.
