PC randomly turned off, motherboard lights up but PC wont turn on. (Help)
Alright, so I was playing rocket league when suddenly my entire PC turned off. I've had this problem for a week, and I could simply reboot it. Anyways, this time I could not reboot it at all. I looked into it, and found out that this could be a PSU problem.

So... I call my friend and I talk to him about it, and we went and got a new PSU. 850W. I got back home and replaced the PSU and all, and still. The PC wont turn on at all!

So now I take my entire PC and go to my friends house. He has another motherboard that works with my CPU. So now I have a new motherboard, a new PSU, and plug everything in.

When we turn on the power, the motherboard lights up. Even the RGB on the panels of the motherboard. When we hit the power button, nothing comes on... again! His motherboard was not broken at all before we tested this.

If anybody knows the issue, please help! Here are my specs.

I5 6600k
980ti
16GB DDR4 Ram
Z170-A Motherboard
RM 750W PSU

I'm not sure what motherboard my friend and I tested, as I am home now. I'm leaving the PC to him and when his dad comes home tomorrow, he's going to try and fix it. But I got a 850 EVGA PSU after. The motherboard could be used with my CPU aswell.

If anyone has any idea, please help! Thank you!

EDIT: Alright, I have found the problem. When I took the GPU out of the PC, the PC boots up. My 980ti is fried.

I'm 99% sure the cables are fine. We've pushed them in multiple times, check the slots multiple times. I don't know what to think anymore.

Try reseating most of your parts, and try using a different drive to boot.

Does your MB produce any sounds while booting? By the number of beeps one can locate a problem module.

Psu might have killed the gpu
Try booting with the igpu

It could be your power button. Make sure its wired into the mobo correctly. It could even be faulty.

Doesn't sound that way. Unseated ram will produce a post beep sequence. as well an unseated or fault vid card in most cases.

Sounds like the issue I had when my GPU died. Unplug the GPUs power cables and see if the PC boots. If it does your GPU is dead.

My PC is at my friends house, I sent him what you said. I'll let you know if thats the case. If it is, I have warranty on my 980ti! If 2 months and 18 days passed, it would be expired. I hope thats the case. Don't want it to be my CPU, thats 300 bucks down the drain. Also, all these parts I mentioned were with me since 2015.

how would you fix a broken power button? I know that one of the 3.0 USB slots at the top of the case was a bit faulty. For example, I couldn't plug my controller into that slot as it would connect and disconnect repeatedly.

Dead gpu or ram mine doesnt beep if i remember if the ram isnt in or bad just shows the ram light so you know somethings wrong. I bent the cpu pin that controlled dual channel everything would light up then it would just sit there no post or anything idk if youve messed with that lately but that could be it. If this has been happening for a week have you been getting blue screens prior to this or was it just shutting off no warning?
Chama Aug 17, 2018 @ 11:56am
So my PC would turn of when I would be playing games.(Would only happen every so often. Like once every few days) Then, the 2 days prior to it just shutting off for good, when I played PUBG for example, my entire screen would turn purple with no warning. My entire PC froze, I guess. I could hear my friend on discord at one point, but he could not hear me at all. The PC would still be on, but frozen in this purple state. Happened two or three times.
