500w PSU on this rig
AMD Ryzen 5 1600

16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 at 2933mhz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti

I've been using this rig for a long time with a 500w Power Supply.
Would wanna know if the 500w Power Supply is going to need a replacement soon if i would wanna do things like overclock anything or run heavier gear. i have a couple of good deals on EVGA SuperNova G2's with watts around 650 to 850.

If you've been running that 500watt for a while with that system you should be fine.

It all depends on the quality of the power supply.

Ive had a cheap 800watt power supplies blow up with a gtx 760, but a decent old school Antec 430watt power a gtx 780ti with no problems.

I still have that PSU, Antec TruPower 430watt, thing has been used in so many systems now.

500W is just plenty.
More than that, the quality of psu matters.

If you have low quality psu, it's definitely requiring replacement.
A good 550W is all you will need.

We need a few more details to determine this because every component that uses electricity contributes to power usage. For instance, how many USB ports are in use? How many case fans are there and what size?

Personally, you are having issues witht eh current PSU, you should probably replace it.
It will work just fine.

If you can get a good deal on a nice 650w PSU I would totally go for it.

At the moment there's 3 USB ports being used, keyboard, headset, mouse. sometimes i'll connect my controller aswell.
I have around 4-6 Fans in the Case and i think most of them are 80mm fans or 100mm.
What's the model of your current psu?

Seasonic SS-500ET got to be very old, no site out there contains a good amount of info, not from what i've found yet.

OEM PSU, but it doesn't appear to be that bad. 80+ Bronze, 3 year warranty.

If you can get a good deal on those PSU you listed I'd go for it. 550-600 watts will be fine. The EVGA are likely to be more effiecient than you're current PSU too. So less wasted energy per watt.

Yeah, it's pretty much OEM version of Seasonic S12II 520 with 500W rated power instead of 520W.
It's not bad but definitely worth replacing.

So i'm pretty much not in a hurry to upgrade but it would be very good?

Yep. It would be preferrably.
I am not a fan of cheap/low end/weak PSU's. They are effectively the life blood of your system. Why risk it by buying a weaker PSU that may not do the job? Buy the best/most powerful you can afford and never worry about it.

Here's the catch, the lower the rated output, the harder the device has to work overall to keep up with the demand. this means it runs hotter, and wears out faster.

I've been running the same Enermax 1050W for 8 years now, and I don't foresee any need to replace it any time soon. I know it's more then up for the task because it's so far above my system's demands.
500w is enough if the psu is good quality

but there are many crap ones that cannot output their rated power

Seasonic is a quality brand, one of the few who actually manufacture their own power supplies, many others simply outsource, so you are good. I have a seasonic 750, costs a little more but its worth it. Component quality and efficiency matter. EVGA is definitely a tier below.
