Can you have 2 different gtx's in one pc?

I might possibly be putting a 10 series gtx and a 960 gtx in the same computer, will this work?

Yes, but there is very little reason to do so.

Although I myself am using GT 1030 at the side of GTX 1080.
This is because I have 3 monitors, and if all of them are connected to the 1080, it's running at higher clockspeed and power use.

Only when at least 1 monitor is not connected, it can go back to normal idle clockspeeds.

No, it won't. As they can't be used at the same time for gaming. Like in SLI.
SLI is only possible with 2 same gpus.

Having something like GTX 1060 + GTX 960 will only make you use more power and increase the heat in the system.

does not work with 2 different generations as you require 2 different SLI bridges and the connection are different places. Beside you could use SLI with different GPU's with 7th Seires anymore if I'm not mistaken. Definetly not with 10th Series.
Beside that, SLI works in a way that GPU 1 renders all even frames like: 2, 4, 6, 8... and the 2nd GPu renders the uneven frames like 1, 3, 5, 7... means if you use a comparably weak GPu as the GTX 960 (comparable to GTX 1050 Ti) and pair it with a GTX 1070 in SLI you would hold back the GTX 1070 heavily below a level what a GTX 1070 could do on its own.

You dont need special software to use SLI just a SLI bridge and a SLI ready motherboard.


Beyond that you wont get extra performance when apiring the GPUS and usign the weaker GPU for physics. The splitting of the lanes there will negate the advatage.

GTX 960 is not DX12 capable. Only Pascal and Turing

900 series was DX12 supported right from the start. It was the 600 and 700 series that got support later. But of course700 and 600 don't actually have DX12 support. They have DX11_1, which shares a lot of basic features with DX12_1, enough to let them use DX12. But may not be able to use some later features which were introduced in DX12_1.
