All games keep freezing every few minutes
So most of my parts were ordered in 2015. However my newest parts are a SSD Samsung 500gb 3 days ago, Water cooling(Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240MM CPU Cooler) in 2017 and Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 2.5" USB Powered Portable External Hard Drive in 2016 to store all my games and backups.

Here is a list of my parts from speccy:
Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 3.50GHz 27 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z87-PRO (SOCKET 1150) 28 °C
Graphics
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (XFX Pine Group)(7870)

Now I'm not sure if something is failing and if so what part. My windows 7 stopped booting up, has done this a few times after reinstalling overtime so I replaced my SSD. After my new SSD windows install, Games are SUPER choppy, freeze and unfreeze every few minutes. Seems to be mostly when graphics kick up. Like in hearthstone every other damn card that gets played makes my pc have a mini heart attack. I tried booting up monster hunter to have it super freeze and take several minutes just for the logos to fade in and out. In game every few minutes it stutters and the screen freezes. I tried clean installing different graphics updates, messing with graphics settings and that didn't fix it. Then I tried installing some games on my SSD instead of the Portable hard drive and its the same thing.

I also need to mention before i replaced my ssd occasionally my pc would freeze in games for just a few seconds. Also made me unable to talk and hear my discord during the freeze. It wasnt this bad tho.

Are you sure you have all your drivers installed? You of course have the BIOS set to UEFI + AHCI?

It's also possible that the SSD might be deffective.

Yup i got a disk with everything for the motherboard on it. Avoiding norton i installed everything else. I keep a backup of installs if i have trouble or forget things too. I think theres some programs to check if some things are defective or failing but i dont know them. When i have more time ill look into it

Steam is the cause. For me, steam itself and only one game TF2 stutter / freezes randomly for sometimes upwards of 10 seconds or more. I narrowed it down.

All started for me back in feb 2017. 11 different PCs. No hardware, software, driver or program issues. No heat issues, clean os installs, verify, reinstalls nothing. Steam.exe is causing a ( Not Responding ) but nothing else is affected by it. Except TF2 and Steam itself.

Ryzen 7 2700x / 128GB DDR4 @ 3200Mhz / 1TB SDD / Vega 64(8GB) / Windows 10 Home (x64) ... Others similar from i7-8086k with Titan XV, to Ryzen 1700 with RX 580.

Including Windows XP, Windows 8.1, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 10 Pro.

Good luck, Steam support is useless and blames me for Their program being the cause. And TF2 will likely never be playable by me again because of this issue.

I honestly hope more and more of you get this issue. Maybe then, valve / steam will fix this issue affecting my TF2 game and Steam itself.

NOT YOUR SSD OR OS. BASED ON YOUR PROBLEM.
Steam is not to blaim for you dumping malware on all your systems.

Never, ever, have I encountered anyone having a lagging issue which are caused by Steam. It's always caused by crapware running in the background or a dirt slow/dying disk.

actually now that i think about it, It doesnt matter if the game is installed on my SSD or Portable hard drive they all do this so it doesnt seem likely that my SSD is to blame. Unless im missing something

have you monitored your temperatures (cpu, gpu chassis) ?

Just ran a test, video card didnt go over 65c and cpu didnt even go over 32c. However im thinking my video card is likely the culprit. Makes a lot of noise while in games even more so while stuttering. Sounds like something is shaking around.

well, in that case, you can borrow a similar gpu from a friend to rule it out.
or use your gpu in a friend's pc to rule in/out something.
just be sure to use a decent psu like seasonic 620W+

7870 should go in a media pc or in the trash; it can't handle games.

Ran a test with a differnet video card, still same problem but I did notice my CPU usage goes up to 100% while its freezing in games so good chance its the processor. Memory doesnt get to 5GB out of 8GB

Alright I have found the issue, somehow my portable hard drive having a failure affected all my games, I had hearthstone installed on it but not monster hunter, maybe its because I also had steam files on the hard drive? But just by unplugging it everything runs nearly flawlessly. My video card still makes a lot of noise tho, this is a very recent thing and its gonna drive me nuts.
