1050, 2018 and "run well" does not compute. If you have low standards with regards to resolution and framerate, then maybe.
You're underestimating 1050's performance quite a bit.
It can easily run 1080p and get 60fps. And you don't even need to put graphics to the lowest.
I have games like deus ex mankind divided, rise of the tomb raider for example and both of them *just* stay above 60 and thats not even with max settings. thats 1080p on a 1080...
ff15 another example, nier automata, every ubisoft game in the last year.
Whilst I'm sure there are some titles that will be well optimised enough for a 1050, it won't be a large number.
Not even max settings, but surely quite close to it.
Settings are there to be tweaked to get the performance you want.
Just drop the settings enough and it will run:

Here the card is getting 40 to 50fps at High settings. Drop some to medium and you have stable 60.
Prepare for 900p and allot set to low.
I have the same setup on my lenovo legion y520.
The biggest bottleneck is the 2gb vram so textures on low and shadercaching needs to be tested.

And for that crap did you necro this thread?
Also, the notebook variant is not an "M" series gpu. It's a full-blown desktop model with slightly lower TDP. The performance is nearly identical.
The GeForce 1050 is absolutely amazing! You don't even need a good PSU because they run without a 6-pin!!!
I used to have the measly 2gb version in my desktop and it ran everything on medium and sometimes high 50-60 fps solid and 1080p.
the total speed difference between a GTX1050 and a GTX1050 mobile is 17% the mobile is 17% slower overall when they dropped the power the dropped several layers of performance

and whilst it can play most games at medium settings its definitely a case of reduce the settings until the GTX1050 will run the game in a playable manner. The big problem is that the GTX670 is rapidly becoming the minimum GPU for new games and since the GTX670 is 16% faster than a GTX1050, Buying a GTX1050 is buying a redundant underpowered GPU!.

and yes you are correct I have never owned a GTX1050 because the GTX670 that was my old GPU is faster than the GTX1050 by a fairly big margin.
personally my upgrade path rule is always 50% or faster or dont bother.
hence I went from the GTX670 to a GTX1070 and then to a GTX1080TI.
If you actually own a card, the regular 2gb version runs 50% the speed in most games.
Userbenchmark is off from the real world experience since the biggest bottleneck is the vram.
This is from my personal experience and i am sure others can confirm this statement too.
And i would appreciate if you wouldn't go so low with that offencive language.
