Stop screen dimming in fullscreen videos
If I'm watching a video in fullscreen, it can be on youtube, vlc, whatever, the screen will automatically dim after a few seconds.

Windows 10, R9 380, i5 6500

Is there a fix for this?

- What broswer are you using?
- Is this broswer up to date?
- Does this happen to every site?
- Do you have any extensions for your broswer?
- Any apps running in the background, such as anti virus, or other things, can interact with your broswer, or display?
- Was this something new, or always the case? Also when did it start happening? Could it be when you updated something, or Windows?
- Chrome.
- Should be.
- Youtube and all video players on my computer (vlc, movies, wmp)
- Yes, but because it's not just happening in my browser I don't think they're the issue.
- AVG, f.lux
- Fairly new, probably started around a week or two ago. I updated my graphics card drivers around then but if I remember correctly the dimming started a few days after that, not right away.

No and I don't really want to because with that version the particles in some games (lookin at you, gta) were really messed up.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION IN MY CASE. One thing though: My screen dims whenever the thing displayed on screen is sufficiently dark itself, making the subject matter EVEN DARKER.

Turns out it was my Samsung monitors. They're the culprit. I have no clue why they started doing this of their own accord, but I went to the SETUP&RESET option, and selected reset>Yes

I don't know which setting was responsible, or how it turned itself on, but the reset fixed it.

TLDR: Reset your actual monitor's settings and hope for the best. Hope this helps!

Same issue here with Opera, playing any video on fullscreen, as soon as i remove hdmi dual monitor, the issue goes as well, but… what causes it… can't figure it out.
And it's only with Opera browser :)
Had the same issue i fixed it by changing the preset mode on my monitor from gaming to anything else.

I'm 95% sure its HDR and latest nvidia driver issue...
Try an older nvidia driver and clean install it by wiping out all current using the DDU app.

Stop updating gpu driver unless you need to.
What model monitor is it?
Check the Monitor. Many offer a sensor on it like your Phone does, where it detects ambient light and auto adjusts brightness and contrast based on that, disable this feature in your monitors onboard menu if it has it.

I have the same issue. I haven't updated my Nvidia driver in over a month. However Windows updated a few days ago, so I think there must be some Windows update that has caused this.

The last updates I had was
https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4524100/oct-8-2019-kb4524100-cumulative-update-for-net-framework
https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4517389/windows-10-update-kb4517389

Unfortunately they're cumulative updates so that makes it more difficult to pinpoint which part of it did it.

Edit:
OK, figured out how to fix it in my case. Yesterday I moved my television.

My TV supports HDR but my other two monitors do not. I normally have my TV disabled, because it only gets situational use, however unplugging and plugging it back in when I moved it reactivated it.

So to fix this issue, go into Display Settings, either disable the HDR monitor OR switch the switch that says to use HDR for fullscreen applications off.

I suspect Chris (above) is right with this being an Nvidia driver issue.

This fixed it for me as well. I just got a new monitor with HDR, my other old monitor doesn't support it.
Right click > Display settings > Select your HDR monitor > Turn off HRD games and Apps.

Real crappy fix, since the point of getting an HDR monitor is so you can play in HDR. But im not watching grayed out movies.
