Monitor overclock
I used the Nvidia control panel to change the refresh rate to 75 from 60. However the resolution no longer matches the monitor. It is not tall enough and too wide. However i am still using my native resolution.

I am using VGA at 1600x900.

I think VGA is what causes the issue.
VGA is ancient interface, looks like some old monitor when you use 1600x900, set it back to 60 Hz.

Well 1600x900 is my native resolution of my monitor. And it looks fine. Im just trying to get a high refresh rate.

I lowered the resolution to 1280x1024 and managed to get the 75HZ. So im guessing that it probably is that VGA cant support my res at 75Hz

If your monitor supports DVI or even HDMI, then get one of those. They shouldn't be expensive.

Does your GPU have other video connectors other than VGA? Maybe you can use a VGA to DVI or HDMI adapter.
Pointless to try overclocking some ancient monitor, nothing good will ever come from this.
It's not some modern 144 Hz monitor that are overclockable to 165-200 Hz.

And considering the fact it only supports VGA and whatever the age of that monitor, it's time to invest on a new one.

Well i am planning on bit PC upgrade soon-ish. Untill then i am just push what I have to its limit. Plus this monitor cost me £80 so im gonna get the most out of my money and use as second monitor in futture.

from 60Hz to 75 seems noticable to me in games. So may seem pointless to you, but worth it for me.

The connector will still limit it as it basiccally just acts as another VGA cable tagged on the end of a HDMI or what ever cable. So this woulnt work.

Vga will not auto align to the display due to being analog, simply press the auto align button on your display if it does not fit

If the display on has vga, it's time for the recycle bin

Why all the VGA hate. We wouldn't have anything else if it wasnt for VGA exstisting ion the first place, and dispite its age, it is still decent.

Worked fine back in the 80s and 90s, but it's still an analog signal.
DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and Lightning all beat VGA in every single way.
And due to them using a digital signal there is no image quality loss due to the conversion from a digital signal into analog, transferred through the cable and then back to digital within the display.

It had its use with the old Cathode Ray Tubes, but with LCD/TFT displays, it's simply pointless now.

That's irrelevant. The point of his topic here is you overclocking or at least trying to overclock your current monitor, which is an old model, using a VGA cable. And from what I read, everyone's proposal here is to invest on a new, modern, and better monitor with a better video connection; like DVI or even HDMI - but Displayport being the best.

VGA is simply outdated. There is no reason to stay on it.
You can get used monitors with DVI and even HDMI for few tens of €/$/£. And ones with 1080p resolution even, if you are low on budget and can't afford complete new monitor.
