This might be a stupid question but are Razer products actually overpriced?
This might be a stupid question but are Razer products actually overpriced? People said that they use materials that costs 3x cheaper than their product price.. Which i'm still wondering if it's true or not since i don't really understand the right materials for keyboard and stuff to have perfect durability..

I used to have Razer Abyssus Mouse and it's been with me for 4 years which is the longest lifetime of a mouse i've ever used.. but it's broken now because of the cable got pulled out the mouse somehow..

I'm planning to buy Razer Deathstalker Essential the $50 membrane keyboard but i don't want to be dissappointed either..

They honestly are. They still use low quality Kailh switches ALONGSIDE Greetech switches, and the build quality is just cheap and awful.

does that only apply to Keyboards or all of their products?

I'm currently using a mechanical keyboard that uses Outemu Blue Switch and the feedback sound is perfect for me but my friends often complains on how loud it is through my mic..

No one here knows how much their products actually cost, but they do have a bad reputation on the forums. Personally, I've been using a Deathadder Elite and have no complaints.

And I have a Razer Wolverine, again it's been outstanding. Much better than anything MS makes.

I would characterise Razer as hit and miss. From my experience they usually do a very good job with their high-end equipment, but an equally terrible job at the low-end. All the Razer products I've had fail were Tournanent or Essentials series.

In my experience they are overpriced, and also not very solid.

Their production quality is kinda hit or miss and that their drivers use some kind of online DRM is argument enough not to use them, ever.

anyone have suggestions for chiclet styled membrane keyboard? similar to the Deathstalker
Depends on what you mean with overpriced.

Whatever it's clothes or a gaming mice you are paying for much more than the price of the components. So by that account it's overpriced.

Also by now there's lots of mice with decent-good sensors so you don't need the very best and the difference may be small, and the price of a 5 vs 20 or 30 million click sensor may not be very high so do that the higher price of a premium product make it worth it?

I had the original Razer DeathAdder and thought it was expensive and the left mouse button eventually multiclicked all the times so I thought it was crap and over-priced yes.

On the other hand a new switch is like $1 maybe less and you could replace it. A longer lasting one would had been nice.

A Logitech G203 got a goodish sensor and 10 million click buttons I think, pay twice the amount and you get the best sensor and 20 million click buttons. I assume the additional cost isn't that much but I guess the best products and the high volume products may pay for their own development costs in different ways (more units sold * less profit per product vs more profit per product but less sold.)

By now I'd expect Razer to use better switches in their more premium mice. Then again I could get the SteelSeries Sensei 310 for the same price as this Logitech G203 back just after when it was released with 30 million click switches and the best(?) sensor. Supposedly it has flaws too and the ambidextrous design isn't the one I feel is the most comfortable so I didn't keep that one instead. But it was an option. The Rival 310 I think would be more comfortable but it didn't had the same price cut.

I would get what fit your hand with at-least decent components at a price cut.

Only deathstalker clone I am aware of is the Redragon K502 Karura[www.amazon.com] if you don't mind the fake RGB.

Compared to the Deathstalker Essential[www.amazon.com] (the non-backlit version) it's just about the same price as the K502 while it's on sale, the fact that it is normally $40 to $50 is a good demonstration of Razer's high price markup.
I wouldn't buy either of membrane or chiclet regardless of brand.

If it's the price point which is the thing why not just get random Chinese cherry mx copy keyboard for the same price?

Quite true, I am using a GoFreeTech TKL[www.amazon.com] for $35, picked it up when I saw it has low-profile browns by ETT - was skeptical at first but it's pretty awesome. Strange it's not advertised as a low-profile switch board, just happened to come across it searching for low-profile brown boards.

Razer is like Apple, you don't pay for quality but for a name, a status...
I would avoid Razer and buy Logitech which has better quality but less eco on media.
Just like Xiaomi cellphones have better quality than Apple ones but Apple is the best company at selling cheapo products as high end.

Yeah. I have for years no complaint about their high end keyboards. The holded out for years for me and so far not a single broken keyboard for me. But I only stick to Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 or now Blackwidow Chroma v2 (orange switches).
They are not more expensive then there comparable copatitors here and in fact 25% cheaper then a Corsair K95 and offering a way betetr wrist rest. Also I didnt liked that the keys are just on top of the board instead of lied in as with the Blackwidow.
