My Computer is not Performing
Hello, so I have a new computer- my specs as follows: 8th gen i5, 8 GB RAM, and Intel UHD Graphics 620. I know I know it’s not a great graphics card and if I really want to play pc games I should upgrade it but right now I don’t have the money. This means I’m stuck with it. I’ve started to notice that the computer however bad it is l, may not be performing up to task. For example I tried to play a game where my graphics card is better than the minimum requirements but I still struggle to get 15 FPS on low. I have updated all my drivers and done all the Dell support assist things. I am up to date on all my Dell and Intel Updates. Additionally I have configured the Graphics settings to maximum performance but that does not help either. Am I missing something that I should be doing? Thanks for any help!

Intel Integrated graphics have never been very good. It would help to know what games you wish to play, but very few games released in the last 5-6 years will run well on integrated.

When a game has its minimum specs listed, that usually means those are the specs you need for the game to run, they don't guarantee framerate. Nothing your missing, its just that games are optimized for dedicated gaming GPU's, not integrated GPU's.

Well first off take a look at Project Zomboid. I shouldn’t have an issue with that. Yet, I run it at 20 FPS on low.

Yes I understand that however when I look at videos with my same specs and the same game, with the same or lower settings, my computer does not perform as well.

I don't want to upset you but you'd still be better with a GTX1030 and a lot better with a GTX1050/1050ti.

But weather or not this is or isn't a laptop isn't clear?

It is a laptop. What I’m try to say is that in the video link it shows cs go. That machine gets around 100 FPS. When I play on a lower resolution and same graphics, I barely get 30 FPS. That’s not right...

return laptop. get better laptop.

how much did it cost?

If you just loaded the PC up and expect it to run stuff, then you're doing it wrong. Probably need to update the integrated gpu driver.

I'd recommend clean installing it by using DDU to uninstall and then install the latest driver straight from Intel's support page. You should update the rest of your drivers as well.

You'll always struggle in pretty much any game in the last 5 or so years and anything remotely demanding, but you should definitely be able to play non-demanding games like Project Zomboid.

That machine is meant for web browsing and watching videos, not gaming.

I have said all my drivers have updated and I’m up to date with Intel and Windows. I did not just load it up.

You were not specific about how you did this. As with many people that have issues on these forums, I assume you updated drivers via Windows update or device manager.

To properly do this, you need to get drivers straight from the individual manufacturer support pages. Windows does not do a good job at getting drivers and should have automatic driver updates disabled.

I did it through dell support assist as I said up there

Check your CPU temp while gaming. Probably it throttling because of overheating.
Also I suggest install any Linux on USB flash drive and install Linux Steam client+CSGO (not on Flash drive, if you can).
Finally, the problem could be not in CPU/GPU drivers, but in bad HDD (if your laptop with HDD). I bought a cheap laptop with HDD in 2014, it was barely usable. It couldn't run anything properly even office applications. I changed HDD to SSD and it was game changing.

If that is the case, then there is nothing I can do right now. Thanks for the info
