Best Closed Back Headphones for Gaming under $250?
***Skip to the bottom paragraph if you want to skip my story***

Yes, we're back to this again. If you've seen my past posts, you probably seen that I have made similar posts to this one. Since then, I've ventured out and tried a few pair of headphones that caught my eyes, and I have to say, they didn't really suite me or my setup well.

The first pair were the Audio Technica WS1100is, which I heard a youtuber named "Z Reviews" say that they were good for gaming, however when I received them I thought otherwise. The audio wasn't clear whatsoever, and vocals sounded to bassy. Even watching videos while using them sounded unclear. So this led me to returning them and finding a different pair.

The recent pair were the Sennheiser HD 598 SR, which seems to get a lot of good reviews, and I've seen many people using them for gaming. When I received them, I instantly noticed a big difference in sound from the last pair of headphones I tried, and the headset I used before them, which were the HyperX Cloud Alphas. Audio was clear, good bass response, everything you could ask for. But what went wrong might you ask? Well, even though they were designed this way, and I knew what I was getting myself into, the fact they were open-back is what killed it for me. These headphones leaked more sound than I thought they would, and everything I heard went straight into my microphone and echoed to everyone I was talking to in Discord. I tried making a noisegate but it still didn't help fix this issue. And once again I returned this pair.

So where I'm at now is, I'm trying to find a good pair of closed back headphones that have a wide soundstage, or at least a good soundstage, good bass response, comfortable, and all under $250. If anyone can help me find a pair that fits this description, I would really appreciate it.

If his profile is anything to go by, it would appear that he went with the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs, which is simply the closed back version of the HD 598 SR.

Since he liked the HD 598 SR, but just didn't like that it was open back, I'd say that was a great option for him.

Which type of headphones are best for me? What headphone type should I buy? We’ve seen these commented, e-mailed and asked of us personally when it comes to the many kinds of headphones there are in the world today. We understand — merely searching for “headphones” on a search engine or eCommerce shopping site may even make this process more difficult than when you first started, since the ways you can constrain you headphone search becomes quite intricate and ultimately messy. As we saw in our best headphones guide to help you with recommendations and choose the “best pair”, we highlighted the “types” only briefly. Today we went into even more detail to help you understand what all of these “ear”, “in”, and “over” superlatives mean when it comes to headphone capabilities and fits. Let’s get into it! https://www.wirerealm.com/guides/different-headphone-types-list

You seemed picky, so what do you like about them? Do you play FPS where sound staging and imaging is important? If so, how is it with the 598 Cs? Have you tried any others you like?

Well for starters, the soundstaging is there but it's not as wide as the open-back variant or any open-back headphone for that matter. The bass response is nice and punchy, not too overpowering at all but definitely shines where you would expect it. Clarity is very nice, I've been able to notice more detail in the sounds I'm used to hearing on other pairs of headphones. And yes I do mainly play FPS games, and these do definitely help with pinpointing where certain sounds come from (i.e gun shots, explosions, footsteps, etc.)
