Report a translation problem
I'm not Linux or Mac expert, but it seems that whatever symbolic link you created to open Steam may have been overwritten by an OS update. Just delete the old ones and create new ones...and if that doesn't work, it will be beyond my scope of expertise.

İ ve been trying to fix this for a week now.. my bad for posting alot
So as per the suggestion of The Spoopy Kitteh I remove the file it was complaining about: steamclient64.dll_ and its neighbouring file steamclient.dll_
After I re-ran the application, it complained about a different file:
I renamed the folder "~/Library/Application support/Steam/Steam.AppBundle/Steam/Contents/MacOS/package/tmp" to "tmp~".
After re-running the application, Steam went through with the update, and everything works now. My steam client is running the Nov 9 2018 version.
