Does a 4k monitor look significantly better than 1080p?
To all those on a 4k monitor, does it look noticeably better than a 1080p screen?

In big monitors (40 inch or more), yes. On small ones (less then 24 inch), depends on the preferences of the person.

A slightly longer answer. Things will still look sharper on all but the smallest of monitors, but on a smallish screen, the pixels on a 1080p are well packed in, and the image is small enough to look very sharp. On big and huge screens? a 1080p resolution will still show a LOT of pixelation.

When I compared my 4k 28" monitor to my 1080p laptop - the difference was quite significant. When I made the jump to 4K I did not notice a huge difference, but afterwards when comparing yeah - there is a clear difference depending on screen size, viewing distance etc.

If your even considering 4K. You better have a top of th eline GPU if you want to play current games on it. GTX 1080 minimum in my opinion.

Past 24 inches HELL YEAH!!!

also look into 1440p, or 144fps. 4k is still pretty new and not supported heavily
Its not a single metric, there are different panel technologies, ahva ah-ips etc, 4k is the resolution, it says nothing about the color rendering and viewing angle qualities of a monitor, let alone actually observable vs bs manufacturing spec. There is still an incredible range of quality in ips displays, never mind tn, and there are still plenty of garbage ips panels which dirty the name.

4K always looks good, but the bigger the monitor the better it works. Once you hit 32 inches it looks absolutely amazing, screencaps don't do it justice.

Actually, Wolf, you’re wrong again.
4K 32 inches = 137 PPI
4K 27 inches = 163 PPI

The 27 inch 4K monitor is sharper and looks more detailed/ better/ more amazing :coolness:

pointless if you cant see the pixels

a 1080p 15in will look sharper

or 1440p-4k cell phone will look even sharper, but try idenifying a stuck or dead pixel

generally these are readable and decent dpi/pixel pitch (100ppi or .25mm)
1080p 20-24in
1440p 27-34in
4k 40in+

as for how it looks, depends on the monitor specs
and when gaming, it will more depend on the gpu

Perfect if you can't see the pixels, no pixels in real life. Not to sure why you want to see the pixels.

I have been running 4k for almost 4years now and everything I own is a 4k panel at this point from my XB271HK to my 55" LG C7 OLED with the 27UD68-W to MU8000 in between. Just sold my first 4k tv (ju6700) to my brother. 4k is a HUGE jump over 1080p for gaming, HDR is something else you should be looking at along with 4k at this point.

Well I forgot my 5.5" phone and 10" tablet are 1440p.

Fair enough. Although I hope you'll agree that they both look swag as hell compared to 1080p, though :)

If you get a 4K monitor ensure that it supports BILLIONS of colours, or an Extended Colour Gamut Range.

They look soooooo much better, especially under Apple macOS X. 😇😎💻

Yes I agree 4K looks better than 1080p, but also I have a 24 inch 1080p monitor, I have to admit the clarity looks pretty good.

Now, how big is the difference between 24 inch 1080p and 27 inch 1440p in terms of clarity?? Would it be worth getting a PG279Q now while it’s cheap?

Pretty dramatic, actually. I upgraded from a decent 1080p 24" to the PG279 a couple of years ago and it was a night-and-day difference. It's not as good as a 4K panel, but it's still a huge improvement over 1080p.

I can really recommend the PG279 itself, it's been totally problem-free from the moment I got it.

I have a 24" 1080p that is next to the 27" 1440p screen it replaced. And yes I can notice an improved clarity in both games and desktop environment. Just open Windows explorer and drag it in between screens and you can easily see the icons are smaller and sharper on the 1440p 27" compared to the 24"

The pixel density difference isn't huge but is noticable.
1920x1080, 24" = 92 PPI
2560x1440, 27" = 109 PPI

Keep in mind the extra processing power to run games at 1440p versus 1080p.
