Additionally, DS4 windows makes the controller show up as an Xbox controller, even in games that normally have DS4 support. Which is not ideal.
I had issues with my DS4 using Steams native support and went back to ds4windows. Was an issue with this too as Steam kept stealing access to controller from ds4windows.
Close steam and ds4windows
Unistall/remove wireless controller from devices.
Load Ds4windows
Pair your DS4
In setting section make sure hide ds4 is ticked.
Load steam
Always load ds4windows before Steam if you intend to use your ds4. The ds4 will connect fine after Steam was loaded provided ds4windows was loaded first.
You will need to get used to abxy prompts but that really won't take long. A few hours maybe.
Also, the newest version of Ds4Windows on win10 doesn't seem to actually work in exclusive mode...so yeah, it and stream fight for control.
As Peabrain mentioned make sure the controller is paired to DS4windows, Hide DS4 is ticked and loaded before Steam is loaded. Also make sure all of Steams Controller stuff is turned off.
Aslong as Steam controller options are off and DS4windows is loaded before Steam the hide DS4/exclusive mode should work fine. Loading DS4windows and/or connecting a DS4 before loading Steam can screw it up needing you to use the small reset button on the back of a DS4 and need you to pair it again.
