How to fix audio switching.
Ok my front audio jacks are connected to my motherboard audio header using HD audio connector. But when i plug in my ear phones, i have to go to audio properties and make my earphones my default audio device.

Is there a way i can make it so all i have to do is plug in and unplug my earphones and have them work with out messing with the settings. So when i plug my earphones in it becomes default, then when i unplug them my stereo is the defualt.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990 FXA Rev 4.1 Gaming
Soundcard: Realtec ALC889 Onboard audio.

Just asking if it's possible. Please no insults or getting smart.

Not if you you are switching devices, then no.
Such as switching between Speakers (Rear), Headphones (Front), HDMI (GPU Audio)
Select the most common one you use the Default in Windows Playback.
Now to easily switch, instead of right clicking Speaker icon in Windows, instead left click it and from here you can easily switch from one active device to another. Do so before bringing up any audio playback app or game however.

By default, my monitor is using speaker output via HDMI. When I plug in my USB sound card it automatically sets that to default. I am using the Logitech G430 usb sound card with the Samson SR850s and the Zalman ZM-MIC1. I actually found this out accidentally after getting the G430 headset, and also struggled with setting the audio playback device every time I plugged in my headphones in the past so I feel your pain. I recall searching a bit to make it work with Realtek but I did not find a solution to make it 100% automatic like it does with the USB sound card, it is a major convenience.
See on my old pc build that i built it had an asus mother board i was able to plug in my ear phones in the front and it would automatically disable the back audio jack that is connected to my home stereo system. Then when i unplugged them my rear jacks worked again. I didn't have to mess with any settings. It worked like a smart phone did plug in earphones speaker disconnected unplug ear phones speaker worked. Wish i could get it like that with this build like it was on my old build.
Would switching over to ac 97 connector to the header make it work this way?

It's worth a try, on my Realtek sound manager options (the star/gear icon) there is an option under "playback device", called "mute the rear output device when front headphone is plugged in" so if you check that box it may work!

Thanks i'll try that.

I wonder if it is cause i use a component stereo system and not desktop speakers. Cause i have to use a 3.5mm plug to red and white rca plugs to plug it in my stereo system.

That is a software based setting; nothing to do with available OS settings.
So yes install latest Audio Driver + Software and check those settings.
As I too have such a setting on my one PC that has Creative XFI card, it has "Mute Speakers when Headphones are plugged in" type of a setting.
