Drivers and gaming

My question is: Do you need to update your graphic drivers for a better gaming experience? I always thought the answer was obviously "yes", but there are some people that say that for stability sake its better to not update.....but i want to read your imput, since i undertand next to nothing

It varies from driver to driver and how old your GPU is

After a number of years older GPUs stop getting optimization support and priority goes to current generations, etc so on.

If a gameready driver comes out for a game you play then yeah you should give it a try, even if you have a somewhat older GPU.

For me, i generally always update to the latest driver, but i always do a clean uninstall with DDU first, hasnt failed me yet.

If it works, leave it alone.
You'll know when it's time, newer games will require newer drivers and will prompt that you use a certain minimum version.

Better gaming pretty much means not falling behind old versions that some games are bugged, which is why drivers are being updated. I've learned about some cases that whatever version was good enough to keep rather than updating, but I still think it's better to update.

I rarely upgrade my GPU driver. I only do it if there is a new feature or a bug fix. I use AMD GPUs though.

Are you still using I think it's called ATI Catalyst? I've heard it's not the best, but I was wondering if that's what AMD users are using, how's the exprience when using it to update the driver?

I usually give new driver releases a week or so before updating myself, just in case there're certain deadly issues with them that do happen occasionally.

Depends on your hardware too; there comes a point in time when updating drivers for outdated hardware is fairly pointless.
