GAMES RUNNING IN 32 BIT WITH 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM...
I have a 64 bit operating system. Gtx 950 and an i5 7400 with a msi b150 pro vd i think. i have 8 gigs of memory and for some reason only very little seems to be usable around 3 gigs.

nothign wrong with it. If the game is programmed in 32 bit then it will run as 32 bit as most of the programs.

Also if a game runs in 32 bit it doesnt mean it can only sue 3GB RAM (actually 3.6) just single files cant be larger then 4GB.

most games only use about that much at max. (most don't even go over 1gb)

I don't follow.

Ram, like storage, is never fully available to you. Some of it is used by the OS and background processes for example.

Games are either 32bit or 64 bit regardless of your OS, though a 64 bit game will not run on a 32bit system. Any 32bit application cannot access more than 4gb ram. A 64 bit application has no such limits, hence ram requirements have gone up a lot in recent years.

I see no issue here. If a game has only a 32-bit executable, then that's what will run. Having a 64-bit OS doesn't make everything run in a 64-bit mode, nor is it supposed to.

Outside of heavily modding a game, it won't really matter if a game is just in 32-bit, since the is designed with that in mind from the start.

???????? shouldnt there be like 6 gigs usable? thats what i had in my previous computer with 8 gigs and i run ALL applications in 32 bit despite my operating system saying 64x

32 Bit Program/Game doesnt mean you cant designate more then 4GB (not 3) GB of RAM. Only an 32 Bit OS is limtied to use of 4GB RAM which comes down to ~3.6

a 32 Bit Program can use more then 4GB RAM however single files cant be larger then 4GB inside the RAM. But a game itself does not contain only single files inside the RAM.

i would have thought so yes. windows should be using no more than 2gb max. do you have a lot of background processes running?

I still think this is really sketchy considering im pretty sure i remember arma running in 64 bit before and now its running in 32 bit

x64 = 64 Bit, x86 = 32 Bit.

For 32 Bit = 4GB RAM usage - 500MB = ~3.6GB RAM (4096MB-500MB = 3596MB) and that is only the RAM adressable by the OS. If you have 16GB in your PC with 32 Bit you can still sue 16GB RAm as cache e.g. just only 4GB for the OS itself.

I HAVE 8 GIGS OF RAM, currently only 3.5 gigs are usable... I HAVE A 64x OPERATING SYSTEM WINDOWS 10. IM PRETTY SURE THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE CASE. EVERY PROGRAM IS RUNNING IN 32 BIT.
tacoshy Feb 6, 2018 @ 2:44pm
where does itsay that only 3.5GB are usable? In Task manager? Task manager only tells how much RAM is left to use with all the stuff already running.

Otherwise check if all RAM modules are recognized correctly. SInce when do you have this issue? It has nothing to do on which the programs run only the OS.

It says it in system information
Total Physical Memory 7.97 GB
Available Physical Memory 3.55 GB
System Type x64-based PC

so like I said everything correct. The OS recognize 8GB RAM, 4.4GB are currently used while the is 3.55GB left for usage. Also a 64 Bit OS.

It doesnt make any sense why all my applications are running in 32 bit when i have a 64 bit operating system.

no. Games that previously ran in 64 bit are no longer running in 64 bit. I thought i already established that. Java is running in 32 bit, but we all know it has a 64 bit counterpart that i used to have...
