AMD Phenom II X6 1050T reaching 80 degrees c when idle
Awhile back, I made a thread asking why my computer was performing poorly, and, other than the fact that my computer has been deemed 'ancient', I realised another issue. When looking at the temperature of the CPU using Speccy, it says it goes to about 77 degrees while idling, not playing any games or anything. I tried to search online to find a normal temperature for idling and gaming, and found only things about Phenom II X6 1055T, but that shouldn't make a difference. Anyways, the average idle temperature I saw was way lower than that, so I am going to make a very sophisticated guess that the fan on my CPU doesn't work anymore. What can I do to make it not overheat and thermal throttle itself? Here's a picture of my CPU (as good as i can take it and yes while it's on) since I have no idea how else to specify what fan the CPU is using. https://imgur.com/a/uOcIT

Ain't that an abomination.
There was a lot of dust there. Jesus Christ Africa does a lot to everything. Started cleaning, will continue later because I need sleep.
use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust. should lower temps.
at those temps you are likely thermal throttlign under load reducing performance even more...

Along with a good cleaning, you might need to pull the heatsink and re-apply thermal compound. Unless it had good quality TIM to begin with it is highly likely that the TIM has dried out in the high heat and is not quite good anymore.

Cleaning out the HSF should bring your twmps down to under 50c idle even in the hottest enviroments, and replacing the TIM would ned you another 3-10 degrees depending on the age and wear of the existing TIM.

Given how filthy the HSF is, it's safe to assume the TIM is at least a few years old. Swapping that would likely make a huge difference.

That cpu is wrapped up in a nice warm blanket thats why! The side fan is getting in on the act too. Strip it, clean it and reassemble it and it will run way better.
Good lord that dust buildup though xD

IKR? I've seen cars come back from the Dakar Rally looking cleaner than that.
Apply thermal compound. Been there done that.

He needs to clean out the dust as well... Dust build up equal reduse airflow, meaning heat staying, instead of dissipating the heat.
