Is XMP safe for your memory?

I got an 8GB corsair vengeance LPX 2400 mhz. I saw that i could set the frequency of ram to 3200 mhz. It will be good if Iwill let this frequency always or it will hurt my memory so I should remain with 2400mhz?

It would be helpful if you post your motherboard as well. XMP are an profile for overclock memory.

Yes XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) is a file that saves all data for auto overclocking. It contains the ratio the timings and voltage. If you have a compatible motherboard (Intel Z) you can activate it and the motherboard will overclock it to those protested specifications.

As those are manufacturer settings it is absolutely save and besides corsair offers lifetime warranty.

It should be safe to overclock; however, I should warning you that any kind of overclock is your own risk. As some manufacturer won't take it back and sent new one.

If it is XMP then it is manufacturer pretested and supported OC. The specifically sell it for it.

It's designed to run at the xmp profile, while it is overclocking,it is an overclock set as good by the manufacturer.

XMP is safe to use if it is made by the maker of the memory its what its rated to run at

Totally safe. I'm running at 2666 on 2400 RAM and not having any issues.

Then again I'm not having any noticable direct performance gain either, which will teach me not cheap out on RAM next time.

3200 would only be a couple of FPS difference, even the crazy 4266 stuff doesn't result in much higher FPS, especially not worth it for purely gaming given the cost of the motherboards you need to reliably run the stuff, plus the insane price of the super fast memory to begin with.

its very doubtful that you will ever notice a speed increase with faster ddr4 ram

Depends on the CPU. Ryzen and Gen 8 Intel do notice a few FPS difference.

im pretty sure the difference between 2133 and 4633 is like 5 fps at the very most

i7 5820k in one benchmark and a 4790k in the other that ive seen

but still the performance improvement doesnt justify the price

From what I've seen, newer CPUs do benefit a lot more than those. Ryzen in particular.
