ddr3 2133 .... and compared it to my ddr3 1600 ram....
It did increase gaming a few fps , but not worth the price,
especially now ! Ram is very expensive ...
my opinion.......
I have a 4790k and am very happy with the performance. So probably won’t be upgrading for a while yet
Thanks
MT
I personally I have used that machine to play BF3/4 and 1, along with Fallout 4 and GTA-V...
Currently it cant play a few of those games but thats because the GPU has been swapped out so a friend could borrow it, and the machine is currently living with a DX10 class card (GTX-295). However I did test and play for extended periods all of the listed games when it was still equiped with an HD7870 (which it will be again soon).
Currently it still gets used daily for the likes of The Forest (Unity 4/5 engine) and L4D2, though those are obviously a bit lighter than the afore-mentioned games.
Capacity is > Speed for RAM when considdering gaming.
ALso I have spare DDR3 1600 Mhz 16 GB ( 4 sticks).
I am looking at maybegetting an X79 motherboard and a 6 core ivy-Bridge E CPU and overclock it.
It is more about the extra cores as more games engines are using them. Also the DDR3 will be in quad channel so not a bottleneck at all.
It seems a far less expensive option.
Back when I upgraded from 1866mhz CL9 to 2400mhz CL10, I did notice some applications having improvements. Nothing major, but still an improvement.
Don't forget about timings. Both speed and timing go hand in hand. You want your speed high, and your timing low.
Considering at the time the 2400 ram kit was only $80, and someone bought my 1866 kit for $50, I see it as a win.
Don't forget to factor in selling off your old ram.
I have a darkrock pro 3 so ram options are limited due to height restrictions. I did find a low profile set of amazon (4 x 4gb) for 165 Canadian. 2133mhz

But it could also depend on the gpu, mobo etc. Unless you have a 1080ti, your current gpu might be limiting the performance anyway.
Make sure you are paying attention to timings (CL or CAS).
So many people go swap a good 1600mhz CL9 kit for a 2133mhz CL12 kit, but don't realize that the math ends up with about the same latency, with only the 2133mhz winning out in frequency. Basically a side grade.
(I have a second rig that will use my other set of ram)
